That solved the problem for me - SteamVR starts again!

I was able to manually launch SteamVR by going to the SteamVR folder on my D: drive and then running vrmonitor as administrator. However, an error then comes up: SteamVR failed to init. for unknown reasons. (Error: Log path could not be located (112)). I will try to reinstall as texelot suggests to see if the log files get put in the correct place.

I didn't suggest re-installing, I suggested deleting C:\Users\<you>\AppData\Local\openvr\openvrpaths.vrpath. Or at least open that up to inspect if the paths are wrong. Clarified my post.
Oh my god man, you are my savior. This works!, valve support couldn't even help me. Kept on saying I had to do their ♥♥♥♥ steps and nothing worked. Thanks man!

Thanks that fixed it for me. I opened the openvrpaths file with NotePad and changed the C: drive locations for the config, log and runtime to the the D: drive as seen below. It appears to now be working properly.

"config" : [ "D:\\Steam\\config" ],
"log" : [ "D:\\Steam\\logs" ],
"runtime" : [ "D:\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\SteamVR\\"]

Ichecked the same file and everything was set to C:\\... but i had installed steam and all of it stuff to D:\....
after i had changed it to D:\\... and saved it! i could start the lab with out problems!

This may or may not be related to others' issues, but the timing at least lined up for me. Some time ago (a few months) I moved my Steam installation. Everything seemed to work; I could have sworn I was using SteamVR then too. But as of a few weeks ago I couldn't get it to launch -- no errors or anything, it just didn't open.

I eventually found config/log paths in %localappdata%\openvr\openvrpaths.vrpath. These were pointing to Steam's default installation directory. Re-installing SteamVR doesn't fix this. I deleted the file it and it was regenerated the next time I ran SteamVR with correct directory paths.

@aaron.leiby, could we get some (rather loud) messaging on startup if these paths are invalid? Especially if the logs directory can't be written to... well, you won't get any useful diagnostics that way. :)

This did it for me, thank you!!!!

Thank you texelot! Good troubleshooting :) I just spent 2 days getting a PCIe M.2 NVMe to boot my computer. I ended up having to take a risk and flash a BIOS update that was written by the mighty Lost_N_BIOS and I'm now booting off M.2 3d NAND NVMe. When I reinstalled everything today I couldn't get into my Steam VR games if they weren't listed in the Oculus Library. Your path observation probably just saved me 2 or more hours. Many Thanks!
