And on that topic, what you do need is compatible base stations, old Trackers only support v1, but from 2018 and on they support v2. The difference is if the Vive logo on top is blue or black, blue is v2.
The Index comes with v2 base stations, tell-tale sign is the curved front.
Anywhere ! but I've seen you shouldn't put dongles near each others for best signal reception. If they are close enough to your vrspace it won't matter as much.

I you can wait a bit, don't buy vive trackers until Tundra launch theirs
