How do I start SteamVR Home without launching a game blindly?

Hi guys,
I am really puzzled by the behaviour of the steam client when using my new vive. In my games library, Steam VR Home (and media player etc) do not show up in my library until I launch a game in the VR section. To get to Steam VR home, I have to launch a game, alt+f4 the game and wait for SteamVR to respond to the game close, then it automatically starts Steam VR Home.


After this occurs, all the VR entries Steam VR * show up in my games Library. In addition I can now access steam VR from the View menu in steam (sectioned under big picture mode option)

I have reinstalled everything and have a fresh Windows 10 installation.

How do I just launch the Steam VR Home app without launching a game?

This experience is great when it works, but being ruined by frustration of cycling my PC on and off due to games locking up the client when I alt+f4 the first time to try and access Steam VR Home. Unfortunately the client sometimes dies when I launch a game without the client already running and multiple attempts + reboots are required.

I would like this to work seamlessly so my wife can play when I am not home.

To start SteamVR just turn on your Vive Wand Controllers and it will open SteamVR.

To make a desktop shortcut, your target needs to be: steam://rungameid/250820
To locate SteamVR in your Library, go to Library/Tools. (you'll need this to opt in/out of beta)
