Cant change games while in steam VR?

I often play a vr game and wanto to switch to another vr game (as one does). However once I close a game, steam still registers it as running. I dont know why and its very annoying because I have to physically take off my headset and restart steam vr anytime I want to change games.

Are you quitting through the steam overlay or the system menu (kinda the same thing) the system menu is the one that pops up when you hold the controller power button. I always quit using the system menu and I have no problems but if I try to quit through the overlay (like the little bottom bar bit) and it messes up and sometimes doesn't even quit. Good luck :p

I quit the game through the VR steam overlay via going to library, clicking on the game and clicking exit. For example, switching from Beat Saber to H3VR will cause SteamVR to freeze up and be in a loading lock. The only way to switch games is to come out of VR, and quit SteamVR via its close button.

Stop exiting that way. Use the buttons on the bottom of the overlay. There's one that says 'Go Home' or you can hit the power button and there's usually an option for exiting the game.
However, the best way that I've always found to exit one game is to start another.

Im saying I cant do that. Steam wont let me.

any thumstick, left or right of the windows mixed reality controller.

I dont have any mixed reality headset. Only an HTC VIVE.

I seem to have fixed the problem by uninstalling and reinstalling. Seems to me like a small bug that occured in an initiallization process
