Can you play Vive only games on an Oculus Rift?
Currently trying to save up for the HTC Vive, but I was wondering, since some games only support the Vive headset, is it possible to configure the Oculus Rift to play those games, considering how the Rift controllers are pretty similar to the Vive's?

I play Rift and Vive VR Games on the HTC-Vive, I think by now they are cross compat.

Download a HTC DEMO and try it, or buy a Vive game, if it don't work, Refund it for the money back, though make sure you've played less that 2 hours.

Well I currently don't have either headset, I'm mainly asking because I'd like to save/spend not as much money as possible. If I'm able to play most/all VR games on the Rift then I'd go with that option. In my opinion the Rift controllers seem better too because of the joystick.

You can definitely play most VR games on the Rift. Like, the vast majority. It's only recently, since around December, that games started coming out -- usually big ones -- with major control issues or not being able to start at all. I've read that DOOM VFR, Fallout 4 and LA Noire don't work well due to controls not mapping well from the Vive's touchpads to the Rift's sticks.

There are some bright sides to that. There's certainly tons of stuff on the market that works just fine -- nearly everything else, basically. While Bethesda and Take Two don't seem to be interested in supporting the Rift, Valve seems to be going out of their way to make SteamVR games cross-compatible with the Rift (and Windows MR). A recent beta announced plans to make VR controls remappable, although that seems to be something that's going to take months. And if you don't mind janky controls, you can even play those 3 games on the Rift, too (and in Fallout's case, there seem to be a lot of issues on the Vive, too).

But, honestly, if you can wait I wouldn't buy a headset between now and March, when the Vive Pro is supposed to come out. It's only another 2 months, tops, and you can see if the improved resolution is worth it to you, the prices on the Vive/Rift/WinMR devices will probably drop, and some of the big PSVR exclusives might have released on PC.

I mention the PSVR because while people complain about Rift vs. Vive exclusives, most of them are kind of peanuts compared to the ones the PSVR has gotten. Resident Evil 7 VR was a lot of VR sites' game of the year for 2017, and it's still a PSVR-only game. Skyrim is still PSVR-only. You can only fly an X-Wing on PSVR. The headset and controllers are technically behind the Vive & Rift, but it's getting a lot of the best games, and some of them might not ever come to the PC.

Yeah I actually changed my mind, after seeing videos on how to set up both the vive and the oculus rift, it seems like the vive is much easier and convient for my situation. I don't have a huge room and leading a cable from the rift sensor to my computer which would be across my whole room would be messy.

That's reasonable. You have *some* space to move around and swing your arms, right? Stationary VR is one situation where I think you might as well go Rift, unless you wear glasses.

And again, unless this is free money that's going to fly away if you don't spend it fast, I would wait until the Vive Pro comes out before buying any headset.

No I mean have enough room to do room-scaling or whatever it's called where you move around with your body, it's just that in the case of setting up the rift, it would be less conventional because I would have to lead a usb cable from one side of my room to my computer.

I have I rift and its good but I starting to get fed up with the light reflecting on the lenses and I have heard that the mixed reality head sets are better for god rays and have a crisper picture.
So I have ordered the dell one as it has the same 110fov and they don't need as much gpu power and will play all vive and oculus games
