steam vr not supported on windows 8

when loading steam vr an error message appears and is as follows

windows 8 detected
steamVR is not supported on windows 8 please upgrade to windows 8.1 or windows 10 for best results

fyi i am using an up to date windows 10 os and have had no issues until a couple of days ago after 6 months of no issues at all please advise i am running an htc vive

Make sure steam is not being launched using windows 10 compatibility mode for windows 8.

Have you tried opting in/out of steam client beta?
Or tried opting in/out steamvr beta?

Have you checked all your pc firmwares are up too date? BIOS and device drivers?

If you can not find what you have configured wrong or what software could be conflicting with steamvr just try creating a new windows user account and get steamvr running there.

thanks mate im not sure how to check that steam is being launched ive looked at the rest and there all ok

Its 2021 get windows 10. You can use it without license.

im getting this issue again now same crap im running windows ten seems to be a continuous ongoing issue steam need to sort it out asap and yes im RUNNING WIN 10 before anyone jumps on my reply. ive contacted them biut bet they dont bother replying or say upgrsde to win 10 when clearly im on win 10
