Have SteamVR installed and running on your computer. Connect to your PC and it should work.
Good Luck
1. Purchase the $20 USD Virtual Desktop app in the Oculus store.
2. Configure your headset to function with SideQuest sideloading tool (many guides on setup exist, including a handy and relatively simple one included in SideQuest's webpage and apps.
3. Use SideQuest to pull a sneaky and drop a replacement file with a slight tweak over the old Virtual Desktop file. This is made easy with SideQuest's drag n' drop APK installing system.
4. Use a third party app launcher (also installed via SideQuest) on your VR headset to launch your now customized Virtual Desktop app. I had success with Quest App Launcher, also found on SideQuest.
Synchronize your PC's Virtual desktop app with your headset's modified app, then open SteamVR like normal with no more ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around!
It MUST be noted that:
A. There are several smaller steps involved in these processes, and I recommend you use what I told you here to help figure those out. (stuff like setting your headset to Dev mode to allow its software to be modified, etc.)
B. YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED TO COMPLETELY DISABLE YOUR FIREWALLS AND SECURITY BEFORE EVEN DOWNLOADING THE NECESSARY TOOLS AND FILES, OR YOU WILL HAVE DATA CORRUPTIONS COCKING UP YOUR DAY ALL OVER THE PLACE.
VR does NOT play well with antivirus systems. Particularly with Avast and Windows Defender from what I've observed.
I know this isn't the most comprehensive guide, but with so much misinformation out there, I hope I can pass on my success. But as always, check for more up-to-date suggestions than mine. It works great now, but I have no idea for how long until Oculus does some more dumb ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Pro-Tip: the most comprehensive and effective guide I could find was in fact in SideQuest itself (in its setup tab, upper right) which proved to be a serious boon.
To celebrate, I played Blades and Sorcery until I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ puked.
Best of luck, nerds!
