SteamVR

Headset cannot see base station - all worked great for a long time. Frustrated.
Hi, I need help please. I am using VR for years now, current setup are htc Lighthouses, htc vive controllers and Valve Index headset. Today, I wanted to use VR again after a long time. I ran room setup and all was working as expected. But after that, my headset went grey, and STeam VR says that the headset cannot see the base stations. They are fixed to the wall and properly showing b/c channels each and the green light on top and bottom left. Since then, I did the following: plugging index station in and out, restarting the index glasses in VR, restarting the tracking devices and rerunning their setup (all fine). No I am out of options. Can anybody help on this? Index hardware error? It says it cannot say base stations even when I am in clear sight in the right distance.

After the update, vive cosmos has no way to set the room settings.

I actually could fix my problem by reinstalling the SteamVR software.

Anybody needing steps: Go to SteamVR in your list, right mouse click -> Uninstall. Tnen reinstall after a restart. All is back to normal since then.

issue not resolved for me

troubleshooting I've tried so far:
- reseated all connections to the headset - no effect
- cleaned headset with compressed air/isopropyl alcohol - no effect
- reinstall steam and steamVr - multiple times, no effect
- uninstall everything Vr related, scour all drivers and remaining data - no effect
- factory reset my headset via holding the home button while powering it up - did a firmware update and had no effect
- downgrade steamVr - no effect
- tried every single spare port on my pc, both USB and Display ports - no effect from any ports, except the headset is not detected on one of my usb ports which is a known broken port.
- hooked up my old Vive headset - worked fine, no issues whatsoever

beginning to think my Index just died, but I'm still in limbo with steam support, 2 days and counting

Sorry to hear. I played this morning and all worked great after reinstalling SteamVR. I thought problem solved, closed the ticket. Now ... grey screen again.Sigh.

This is happening to me, too. if anyone figures it out, I'd love to hear it.

(I have a Vive that's about 3.5 years old.)

What's interesting is that, when it first turns on, I see my Steam VR Home just fine. It seems to track my headset. Then suddenly, gray screen. And the Steam VR screen says "Searching... Make sure headset can see bases.) FYI, it totally can. I'm stumped for now, but I'll try some things and update if I fix it.

Okay, it worked for me, finally. I tried a bunch of stuff, but it ended up working after I did two things at once (so I don't know which one did the trick). I restarted my computer and I kept the Vive software on. Normally I kill the Vive processes when I start up my computer to save on CPU %, and it doesn't usually affect the Vive working in Steam. But, hey, maybe that was the problem. So check your Vive software, y'all.

well mine turned out to actually be a dead headset (FML) thankfully Valve has been pretty quick in responding and is going to RMA it

Does anybody else have the problem, after creating the ticket, that the Report File cannot be attached. When submitting, I receive the message "The file type of "SteamVR-2019-11-13-AM_11_38_51.txt" is not supported. Only images and text files can be uploaded.". It, of course, is a textfile.
