One of the Base Station for HTC Vive is blinking red
One of the base station after firm update is blinking red. I switch power on and off multiple times. It will be solid green for few seconds then it goes to blinking red. I don't see this led signal description anywhere. Help please.

I've tried both ways mentioned above none were successful, actually I would say it got worse as I now have no led indication light being displayed where was once a red flashing light now has no indication light of any kind. The only light I can see is a green flashing light in the back of the base monitor however that shouldn't have anything to do with it as they all have this light as soon as you give them power. Am I doing something wrong?

Came here because I had the exact same issue, but brought mine back from brick mode. I'm using Base Station 2.0's that JUST got second hand. My blinking read light, 10009 issue (from what I can gather 10010 is the one that seems to be straight up hardware problems) has only been intermittent. Say, after the station has been on for a while.

Now obviously I found this guide written in many places. My first through was "but this guide was written years ago! Which folder contains the newer firmware for the lighthouse 2.0's?" I couldn't find any info on this so I just assumed that they used the same FW.

So I went a head and tried this, and I ran into the same issue. Dim green light blinking in the back, at first I thought that this must be the one the the guide is talking about, so I thought it succeeded, but it's not...

NOW, I managed to bring my basestation back, because I was smart enough for once to back up the original firmware file that was found on the lighthouse. When you open it up the second time and find the file named firmware.bin, that is NOT the original file. The Base Station renames the file this for its own use. I switched back to the original file I found and now its back. It hasn't been on long enough for me to rediscover the error, But I've set both stations to sleep now when not in use, so I'm hoping that will counteract the issue.

In conclusion, I'm not sure if you're using 2.0's as well, but COULD this mean that there is in fact different firmware we should be using for this fix? There are different folders named "lighthouse" with a different suffix in the Steam VR folders. I read one of them is for the controllers' firmware but I'm unsure about the rest

I'll work on posting my original, semi-working firmware somewhere if it would help bring back someone's stations from a complete brick

Mine appeared to work after messing with all the fixes listed in this thread but it was just showing a green light, the actual base station wasn't tracking. Hopefully yours is different and is actually fixed but just thought id give you a heads up.

I wouldn't have known mine was broken with the original firmware that was on it either. That firmware completely masks the problem by turning the light back to green but you can test it out by just using that one base station, in "C" mode i believe.

3. You can release the button once it enumerates as a USB mass storage device.
4. The drive will be called “CRP_DISABLED” and contain one file “firmware.bin”, delete that file.
5. Copy over onto the drive the “lighthouse_tx_htc_2_0-calibration-rescue-244.bin” file.
6. Once the copy is complete, pull out the power lead.
7. Wait a few seconds then plug in the power again. Be sure not to press the mode button while powering it up this time.
8. In a couple of seconds it should rapidly flash green or red. Green means it succeeded, so continue to step 10.
9. If it is flashing red that means it couldn’t automatically fix it and a replacement is our only option.
10. Unplug the power again.
11. Repeat steps 1 thru 7 but using the “lighthouse_tx_htc_2_0-244-2016-03-12.bin” firmware file instead of the rescue one.
12. The base should now be working again, confirm by setting its mode to "A" and tracking with it alone (the other base turned off). Once it is confirmed working you can add back the other base.

You will need two files that can usually be found under
C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\SteamVR\tools\lighthouse\firmware\lighthouse_tx\archive\htc_2.0.
* lighthouse_tx_htc_2_0-calibration-rescue-244.bin
* lighthouse_tx_htc_2_0-244-2016-03-12.bin
Note: If you installed Steam on a different drive, you can right click the Steam icon and choose "Open File Location".
Serious life saver dude, thanks a million.

Hey guys, sorry for the late response.

Here is a OneDrive link to the original firmware for the Basestation 2.0. Hoping this works

Good luck. let me know how it goes

This just happened to me, went through this and worked beautifully, thanks dude! I am pretty sure I screwed it up developing in Unity.
Just thought i'd add something for anyone who has tried the driver fix and had no luck, i struggled with the issue for ages, and then noticed one of the 2 lasers had broken, i found a sensor for sale with a red light issue, bought it and then proceeded to swap out the diodes, it seems to be working perfectly now

Thanks a mil for posting this, it worked a treat!

Edit - Just in case this helps others. Once the base station came back online it sought a FW update which I dutifully did and of course wound back at square 1 (I hadn't read the full thread)!
I repeated the process and then both base stations weren't syncing (they did appear under basestation settings/scan for base stations - but one was negative for 'visible now in this tracking session').
So, thinking the basestations weren't syncing because they were running different FW versions, I then copied the same firmware file ('lighthouse_tx_htc_2_0-244-2016-03-12.bin') onto the other base station, still no joy. It was then I realised that the originally faulty basestation was set to A rather than C; I changed its mode via the button at the back and both basestations were once again syncing and tracking was working fine (although both were now looking to update their FW but that's were they'll stay for me as an Index is due to ship to within the next few weeks...hopefully).

Base Station 2.0 shows Orange light. Is there anyway to make it work?
sylardean Dec 9, 2020 @ 11:18am
I've just had this problem crop up, it was working perfectly fine previously, not used it in a couple months though. Had an update to do so did and now red blinking light on the one lighthouse, this has me really angry atm. I have only used this VR headset 5/6 times in 2 years (since ive had it, it could still be classed as brand new) so how can this be broke? to me it seems they came out of manufacture faulty and now an update is breaking it..!! HTC should be held responsible for this.

If the software fix doesnt work (i would definitely try that first) it might be hardware related, definitely fixable with the knowledge of what could go wrong, like i said in my post a while ago it turned out to be the laser diodes in mine, if you have a dark room you can see the lights on the diodes, i found one of my mine had died, my solution was to buy a broken base station off of a website like ebay or facebook market place and swap a perfectly functional one in, as long as you are careful and have some bare minimum tools like screwdrivers and something to unclip the front plastic (this was very difficult to do for the first time so don't be worried if you can't get it off and to make it easier i found a hair drier made it much easier to remove the front cover of the base stations) you shouldn't find it too difficult to replace even with a lack of knowledge of electronics. Hope this helps

UPDATE: the original post with what to do worked for me, thanks for that.
