One of the Base Station for HTC Vive is blinking red
One of the base station after firm update is blinking red. I switch power on and off multiple times. It will be solid green for few seconds then it goes to blinking red. I don't see this led signal description anywhere. Help please.

basically, if you can see both lighthouses in VR room, they are working fine and its just a glitch. now if its still under warranty, probably want to return/exchange it if its not fixable.

one more thing. make sure its set to b and c on the lighthouses without cable and b and a with cable

1. With the base station unpowered, connect via a USB cable to your PC.
2. Hold the mode button down and plug in the power lead.
3. You can release the button once it enumerates as a USB mass storage device.
4. The drive will be called “CRP_DISABLED” and contain one file “firmware.bin”, delete that file.
5. Copy over onto the drive the “lighthouse_tx_htc_2_0-calibration-rescue-244.bin” file.
6. Once the copy is complete, pull out the power lead.
7. Wait a few seconds then plug in the power again. Be sure not to press the mode button while powering it up this time.
8. In a couple of seconds it should rapidly flash green or red. Green means it succeeded, so continue to step 10.
9. If it is flashing red that means it couldn’t automatically fix it and a replacement is our only option.
10. Unplug the power again.
11. Repeat steps 1 thru 7 but using the “lighthouse_tx_htc_2_0-244-2016-03-12.bin” firmware file instead of the rescue one.
12. The base should now be working again, confirm by setting its mode to "A" and tracking with it alone (the other base turned off). Once it is confirmed working you can add back the other base.

You will need two files that can usually be found under
C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\Steamapps\common\SteamVR\tools\lighthouse\firmware\lighthouse_tx\archive\htc_2.0.
* lighthouse_tx_htc_2_0-calibration-rescue-244.bin
* lighthouse_tx_htc_2_0-244-2016-03-12.bin
Note: If you installed Steam on a different drive, you can right click the Steam icon and choose "Open File Location".

You are a god. You saved me from having to buy a new base station as I am out of warranty and got the light. Followed the steps exactly and it is now happily working again. Can't thank you enough.

It works, then asks to update - if I do update, it goes back to blinking red, if I don't, it just doesn't track. I have a spare lighthouse and it does the same thing. Any ideas?

Same issue, have you had any luck?

+1 to your legendary status. My heart sank when i couldn't enjoy my vr. Your fix worked perfectly.

Edit: Oh snap, i get the same problem as the other guys. -2 to your legendary status for tricking me with false repair tactics. Sinking heart resume.

Double Edit: I spoke with HTC about this today and it really stinks! I was told that if this has happened after a firmware update that it is most likely due to the tolerance changes within the firmware. Basically it was already damaged but the firmware wasn't showing it.

What i don't like about this is that this hardware could have been damaged from the start.
How many people know the vives coverage when they first buy one? I sure didn't. Iv had small blind spot areas since the beginning but assumed them to be normal. Only now do i see that my light house has probably been faulty since the beginning. Of coarse it is about 6 weeks past the 12 month warranty period...
If it wasn't for that red light i wouldn't have known there was something wrong.
Flashing back to the old firmware tricked us all here as well. How long do you think it would have been until you figured out your lighthouse was broken on the old firmware? Maybe just long enough to void your warranty like me.

Seems dodgee to me. Like painting over a rusty car before you try to sell it.
Anyway, it is highly likely that your hardware has been damaged for a while and you just didn't know it.

This didnt work for me personally, however using your guide I did manage to fix my problem.
So for anyone that hasn't found a fix yet.
Try first doings step 1 to 7 but with the file "lighthouse_tx_htc_2_0-factory-reset-rescue-244.bin"
After this I put the oldest version of the firmware in as suggested ( “lighthouse_tx_htc_2_0-244-2016-03-12.bin”) and I got 2 green lights and working tracking again!

Once the file is copied over I then safely eject the device and then when I got to repeat 1-7 the original file is there and not the one I just copied into the CRP file, that can't be right can it? I've tried both ways mentioned above none were successful, actually I would say it got worse as I now have no led indication light being displayed where was once a red flashing light now has no indication light of any kind. The only light I can see is a green flashing light in the back of the base monitor however that shouldn't have anything to do with it as they all have this light as soon as you give them power. Am I doing something wrong?

I did the same thing at one point. I believe there is a recovery file that you can copy over to reset it, however, if it was blinking red it's broken like wolfgaming above said. Might as well just buy another one or RMA if that's an option.
