Using vlc player for my htc vive possible ?
Hey there, i just ordered my self FINALLY a HTC vive (i have a ultra pc but sadly my gpu is a little bit weak, its a GTX660, but i order soon a gtx970 and till there i will watch movies with my vive),and now i checked my hard drive and i have alot of normal videos, and also a few 3D SBS videos.

Quick question: What happens if i plug-in my vive, then start VLC player and a movie and wear on the vive ? do i see the video in my vive ? or do i need to change something etc ? specially for SBS videos.

You have a few options. SteamVR includes a media player out of the box now, you can check if that is compatible. Then we have multiple apps that support showing your desktop, meaning you can use VLC and it will appear on a virtual screen, things like Virtual Desktop (paid) and Big Screen Beta (free). There are a few more video applications but I cannot recall the names now as I honestly don't use them...

Thanks that was more than enough.

Well, i read that the resolution of the htc vive is a little bit to low and a second generation will come out soon or later.

Once i received my htc vive, i send it back and i wait till the second generation is out and buy that one. I will buy for now then instead a gtx 1080 and a power supply.

Yup, the resolution is borderline OK :) It works for games and apps as you can lean in to take a closer look, which you really cannot when looking at a movie on a huge screen. So while I haven't watched many normal movies VR, the ones I have watched have been stereo 3D ones because you get perfect separation of the two pictures, which is pretty nice!

That said, if movies is the main activity you aim for, there is the option of a mobile headset with 3DoF tracking but with the right phone actually higher resolution than the PC headsets.

I have a mobile VR but i feel nothingg haha.

I wanted the vive for games, but my gpu would be a little bit to weak so i could watch movies till i get a better GPU a few weeks later and play then games.

I decided to send back the vive and buy for now a GPU till the second generation gets released of the vive.

Hi. YouTube VR is ♥♥♥♥. MediaPlayer VR is ♥♥♥♥. MediaPlayer has too small Menu and NO Sound in VIVE. Also: Bad. Can i use VLC to see 360°-Video in my VIVE PRO? THX for all. Best reguards.
