Help with new HTC Vive setup for the n00b...How to move?
I have a nice, brand new HTC Vive setup. Everything works well, but the solution to what seems to be the most basic of problems is still eluding me. I do not have much room, and so I have configured SteamVR for a small, standing room only space. Again, everything works well. I have tried a few different games, and so far all I am able to do is stand around and look at things. I have waved controllers around, fiddled with the mouse, and pushed buttons and keys, but apparently, I am too stuck in my old ways to see the what should be the obvious way I can move. I understand that if I just walk to where I want to go, everything is fine, but I can't, and won't believe that I just bought an awesome VR system without any simple way to move around in a VR space larger than my actual, physically available moving around space.
What am I missing? What button(s) do I push to move forward, backward, etc.?
If I am in a VR space that is 20 x 20 feet or so, and I can't actually walk or move more than three feet in any direction without smacking into a wall or my desk, how do I get to the other side of the VR space?
many thanks in advance...

*pokerface* SEE THE BIG CIRCLE ON THE CONTROLLER? PRESS IT, THAT A TOUCHPAD MOSTLY USED FOR MOVEMENT

1 RETNE (by looking what you play on your profile) need a minimum of 2.5m x 2.5m ROOMSCALE (the steam page usualy tell you what the required space you need to play a game if you dont have the required space you will most prob wont be able to play the game

2 install some REAL vr stuff like rec room, onward ,pavlov vr, the solus project, serious sam vr

3 how can you not figure that out -.-

It's up to each individual game to decide if and how implement movement. Valves games (SteamVR Home and The Lab) have teleportation by holding down the touchpad.

............." I have configured SteamVR for a small, standing room only space"..........

Try setting up SteamVR for "Roomscale" then do the tutorial.

Thanky you for your response. You said that I should "PRESS THE BIG CIRCLE", implying that anybody should immediately see that obvious answer. You then completely contradict yourself by saying that if I'm not playing games that can work in my available space, I can't move around. I "most prob wont be able to play the game" to quote exactly.
I was hoping to find a more generally applicable solution that worked outside of the SteamVR starting room. Dude, if you don't know, just don't answer. Telling me to get "REAL vr stuff" and giving me the old "how could you not figure this out" line isn't helpful.

Thank you. This is most helpful.

im not contradicting myself, when a game require you to have roomscale it is generaly because they doesnt use trackpad movement or has item or objective impossible to do without the required space,
other than that almost all game use the trackpad as movement

But you're rude and incoherent. You live up to your nick.

Also, this "when a game require you to have roomscale it is generaly because they doesnt use trackpad movement" is utter nonsense.

I had a friend run the tutorial last night, surprisingly it doesn’t teach teleportation at all.

If you are new to vr: It's not simple at all.
There is teleportation, running on the spot, moving your arms forward and backward while holding the grip-buttons or the trigger-buttons, flying or just move forward (in the looking direction or the direction of the controllers) if you touch the pad.
Should not forget to say: Sometimes you have to crawl (Vanishing Realms), jump (Runaway VR) or climb(Redswood VR).
Freedom Locomotion VR shows a lot of this styles.
Sometimes you can turn/rotate yourself while teleporting.
In ideal cases the game has a tutorial. Sometimes it's just experimenting.
Youtube can be a help too.
Climby and Rick and Morty Virtual Rick-ality are typical VR-Games that you can play standing. There ist a youtube-clip about someone who plays climby with the knuckles-controller.
