This. Even my old 980's had the monitor on DVI and the Vive on hdmi.
- Run Vive off of DisplayPort, get DP -> miniDP cable
- Run monitor off of DisplayPort, get DP -> HDMI adapter
- Run monitor off of DVI, get DVI -> HDMI adapter/cable
Any of these options would solve your problem. Might be possible to run the VR headset using an adapter too, maybe, but I haven't tried that and would rather do straight cables to avoid any odd issues.I've had mixed and matched monitors so I've been running things like like DP -> HDMI -> DVI in one chain and it has worked fine, at least for a 1080p60 monitor.
Currently I run both the Vive and a new monitor off of DP directly, secondary monitor as DVI -> HDMI (longest cable) and then I have two HDMI unused...
This was my solution also.
ok i just got a dvi to hdmi adapter. i plugged the dvi side to the back of my computer and plugged the hdmi from my monitor in and nothing happens?
Edit: NVM i got it to work, thank you!!!
what did you do
It only got one plug out of the GPU?
Could be a laptop?
Then there would already be one screen, and they could use the plug on the back for VR?
Erm, that is a little worrying, pretty much every gpu capable of VR gaming will have more than 1 output.
That sounds like either its a really low end card or that you are using intergrated graphics, neither of which are going to be able powerful to handle vr in the slightest.
What is the gpu?
