Video Refresh Rate in Steam VR
I was reading documentation for my 2560x1080 wide-screen monitor, and I noticed it said that the refresh rate could be raised by changing the HDMI connection to a Display Port connection, so I tried it and sure enough, I was able to move from 60Hz to 75Hz.

I wondered if the same change would help with my Vive. I exchanged the HDMI connection to a Display Port to Mini-Display Port on my Vive, and the screen seems to look better.

So, I'm trying to determine a way to measure the difference, if there is one. The GTX1070 was set to 60Hz, which was the only selection available. After the monitor cable change, I have two selections, 60Hz and 75Hz. Anyone aggree or disagree these cables make that big a difference?

Vive - 90Hz, any way with HDMI or DP. (If the video card and Vive are working correctly.)

I recently replaced my HDMI cable with a DisplayPort to Mini-DisplayPort cable (from my 1080TI to the Vive breakoutbox) and I noticed that SteamVR starts quicker than it did when using a HDMI cable. I believe the DisplayPort cable can deliver more data per second than the HDMI cable. I was using the stock Vive HDMI cable, and replaced it with a 4K ready DisplayPort to Mini-Displaypoet cable.

Both HDMI and DP have enough bandwidth to carry the needed resolution@refresh rate. These are digital cables so the short answer is no it is literally impossible to tell the difference because there isn't a difference. It is possible however that you had a bad or an old HDMI cable not rated for the bandwidth. Then when you switched to DP you had the right rated cable. You could have had the same results by getting a new HDMI.

All that being said DP has supported higher bandwidths than HDMI for a long time. For that reason I typically use DP whenever possible.

So as I already said, I was using the supplied HDMI cable that is supplied with the Vive. When I start the Vive I power on the basestations and HMD, then point the HMD at either basestation and see the green lights all power on. Then I click on the desktop icon to start SteamVR. When using the HDMI cable (supplied by HTC Vive) it took about 15 seconds for SteamVR to fully load and display SteamVR Home. After swapping to the DisplayPort cable I see SteamVR fully load and display SteamVR Home in under 5 seconds.

Well, both of you are consistent with what my experience has been. Both my original HDMI cable was never spect'ed against anything. Don't even remember where I got them from. I made sure the specifications for both the DP -> DP and the DP -> mDP were correct, so that could have influenced things.
