I have an overclocked GTX 980 which is about as fast as a 1060 and it's running fine for me - without supersampling. I had a 1070 but I sold it again because I didn't see any improvement.
In short there is plenty to play and experience with a VIVE and a 1050ti, but ill probably be looking to try and do an upgrade next summer, when my funds have replenished and maybe graphics card/processor prices have fallen again.
The most relevant HTC Vive games are actually where its at. And most of these games will not run on weak machines.
Just forget about the 1050 on VR. Its crippling the overall experience. Just forget about VR overall if you are not willing to spend money!!!!!!
I have had the R9 290X (X!) custom watercooled and that wasnt enough.
Then 1070...still some framerate trouble...now 1080ti.
Several people complain there are no games. At the same time they dont buy any games. Most likely because they dont want to spend money on them!
You do realize that if you really wanna play in VR it's gonna be very expensive? Why do you think so few people play in vr? First of all because there aren't that many games that support it and second, because it's very pricey. Just look at the price of the HTC vive + the costs for a suitable GPU
You only own 2 "games".
Its obviously a fake account to spread words on these forums.
Get the HTC Vive if you want the best. Get the Rift if you want to go cheap. And cheap is not always better.
Rift has smaller FOV and the display is basically if not physically the same. The lenses are different however.
The minimal GPU I tried Vive with was GTX770 2Gb on PC — most games will work OK on middle/minimal settings.
Many VR games have no graphics settings to begin with.
About everything — I own about 200 VR titles, updated PC to 1060 6Gb and got new laptop on 1060 3Gb this summer and started to test titles like Raw Data, Starseed on the maximum settings with Steam SS — they all worked awesomely, so expect older titles to work OK too.
So in my case "everything" means several first Store pages by relevance/user reviews, all major hits.
Sure there is always a developer's part with optimisation and we all know there are broken games that can lagg on 1080ti but that's now the GPU fail.
UPD: My laptop to make it more clear:
MSI GP72VR 7RF Leopard Pro
i7 7700
16 Gb
1060 3Gb
SSD+1Tb
The lowest PC I used to VR and all works OK:
i5 3rd gen
8 Gb
GTX 770 4Gb
