Projector questions
So I have used projector, but my creations are not what anyone would consider.. advanced?
Question is, sub-grids, are they usable with projector.

I would find it fun to project missiles/rockets or combat drones. Even some rovers that use sub-grids. I am unsure if I can project it or not.
If I cannot project sub-grids. I can always resort to just having some timer blocks lodge the other half or the sub grid onto the main grid. Which does not sound too difficult...

Second question, how do people repair ships? Do they have a projector onboard in the same position as ship and repair it that way?

Visualization would be much easier for this. Though I saw your workshop but I still have a few questions.

So you have the projector projecting the main grid and on the main grid that is being projected you have another projector to project the sub grid.

Or you have a projector projecting the main grid and a projector on the same grid as the other projector projecting the sub grid.
Set up a projector to build the main grid first. Then use sub-grid projectors to build the sub-grids. One of my earlier posts in this thread gives a good example, If you follow the instructions for this blueprint and look at the accompanying pictures, you can see how I used sub-grid projectors to build each sub-grid.

Projectos can only project one grid. If your blueprint is made of more than one grid, it will only project the largest grid... (I believe by block count, not dimensions).

Projectors are great for repairs. People will use a dedicated projector that's aligned with their main grid to replace missing blocks.

If a sub-grid is important enough, you may want to blueprint it individually and project it on to the piston part, rotor part, or hinge part it attaches to. The biggest caveat is that the projector has to be on the same grid that it's projecting. So you may want to build your subgrids in a way that there's a generic block (like armor or a conveyor block) that's the first block attached to the part and a projector can be mounted without interfering with the workings of that sub-grid.

Okie thank you.

Regarding sub-grid. Could I just have a 2nd projector and just project the sub grid and use a piston or hinge to just connect the sub and main grid? That being by rotor or merge block. Sounds simple.

For multi-grid projections, there is the Plugin Loader and Multi-Grid Projector. I've used it to project at least 5 grids out and works well though might need some patience to set up.

For repairs, I use Nanobot Build and repair. It goes through finding damage and welding it back up using parts from inventory. On my fighter base I put them under the landing pads so anything docked gets set up. Setup will need some patience too.

Thanks for trying to help. I also use Nanobot. But personally I mostly play vanilla so it may be highly unlikely I'll actually use anything but Nanobot and AI mods.

Hi, Veteran players shared the important and I recommend to watch that Video to make better Blueprints.

I go in space (no Gravity) in creative mode to paste the Blueprint, detach all subgrids and create separate Blueprints, so I blueprint the main grid and subgrids.

For example
-> Once in suvival = I load the main Bp, build it, add a projector on the rotor head to project the subgrid and build.

Thank you Dan2D3D! I'll try this later. I'll watch the video on the projector thing on my free time. If I still struggle I'll try and find another video or look at discussions.
Also thanks for building tips. I build in atmosphere in creative, since I am mostly in atmosphere. I hate the gravity, I'll try building in space from now on.

Multigrid project is a must have, and Projections To Assembler is very helpful. Nanobot is fantastic for prototyping new builds in survival without having to go setup a separate creative world.

Personally I disagree with multigrid projector. It being a mod is not of my liking.
Best thing I could think of is to have a projector with main grid and a projector for sub grid. Then just have the two connect with pistons and parking legs.

Though Projections To Assembler and Nanobot is very helpful. Nanobot I nearly always use because I do not want to spend my time repairing base.

I recently uploaded a planetary station with four sub-grids. The large sub-grid (on a rotor) uses a projector (build a conveyor junction on top of the advanced rotor head, then build a projector in front of it); that works well. The other three sub-grids are small (one or two blocks each) and easily reproduced without the need for a projector. I try to make builds that have sub-grids projector buildable without mods. But, hey, that's just me. Here's the station I'm talking about.

With proper planning, sub-grids can be manually handled with a projector.

Thank you, I'll try something like this. Or maybe have 2 projectors on base grid and have 1 projector project the "main" grid and the other project the sub-grid of the "main" grid. Maybe connect the two using piston and merge or rotor.

If I find your way useful I may switch to it, thank you.

Also off-topic. You should make the stands for the station bigger. Those seem really weak if you ever get attacked.

Your projector HAS to be on the same grid as what it is projecting. So if you want to build a sub-grid from a projector, you'll need build the first block that attaches to the rotor, piston, hinge BY HAND and then attach a projector somewhere off of that to project what you're looking to build.

I do not understand what you mean.

I do...
Large-grid base. Convert large to small by rotor.
Attach (small) projector to small-grid rotor head.
Attach a 2nd projector somewhere else to another small-grid rotor head.

1st project projects the main grid of the ship I am building.
2nd project projects the sub-grid of the ship I am building.
Then connect the two.

Here's another example where I use two sub-grid projectors to build the two tilt-thrusters, and two projectors to build the two doors for this ship.

Thank you, it is much easier to see how this work.

Merge block it into one grid. blueprint it again. print it then cut the single wall block. You may just have to add rotor/hinge heads and attach them.
