Hey! Listen!
I can't be the only one that is slowly but steadily annoyed by the nonstop comments of the talking sword.
I like Logan Cunningham like the next guy but in this game he reminds me of the person that just won't shut up during a movie because he has to share all his thoughts during every scene.

It's okay that these comments are mostly one-liners (half of them with pauses), it's also okay that there is hardly any modulation in the voice at all (which seems to be what Supergiant was going for) but if I can't go five steps, read a single note or win a battle without being interrupted by yet another comment, this aspect of the game gets old really fast.
This is especially mind-boggling giving how carefully the atmosphere is set up and how the backstory is delivered to the player.

I'm past the first boss but the comments are coming like in the first 10 minutes, does this get any better or do I have to turn off the voices or my own sanity?

I hate to tell you this, but yeah, he narrates through the story and is considered a signifigant story piece. If his voice bothers you that much, try turning off the voice in the options and turning on subtitles to avoid loosing the story... or your mind.

Me personally, I love his voice interjecting every step of the way. It's Supergiant's way of giving their character a voice.

I think you're overreacting. The voice is the only thing that really moves the story along, he's soft spoken, so it's not even like he's talking loudly either. He's just there to give some atmosphere to the rather empty world. Not sure if you can turn him off but he's really not that bad. Chillax man

I actually really like it. As the story moves on I find myself growing attached to him and Red. It works out really well, I think.

if you want to see transistor as a tac sim rpg, turn voice off in the options. if you want to see transistor as a rich story with some combat in between the talking sword is great.

You're a monster.

The only time it sorta got annoying was when the Spine was near by. Then it was sorta like listening to an annoying drunk.

I loved Bastion and I like Transistor even more (crashes aside), but the narration gimmick is wearing thin. Transistor's Sword as Narrator irritates me because of his passive tone. It's not as decisive as the narration in Bastion, and for that reason the running commentary gets old.

Parody examples:

Bastion, turning on a PS4: "Kid wants to play some games."
Transistor: "What's that- Oh. PS4. Nice. Games are fun. Not that I'd know. I don't have hands anymore. Pretty sad. Oh. Go on playing, it's okay."

Bastion, making an omelet: "Peppers, cheese, bacon. Mm. Kid's got an appetite."
Transistor: "Ah, an omelet, huh? You went with some bacon and cheese? Nice. Peppers? Okay, if that's what you like. I won't be eating it. Enjoy. Take some time to enjoy it. I'll be waiting. Right here. Yeah."

Bastion, talking to its crush: "Girl had a beauty that could topple empires and a voice that would make you apologize for bleeding on her shirt if she asked you to cut your own throat, and the Kid walked right into it. Young love."
Transistor: "Oh. Hey there. Hi. What's- Oh. Hi. I see you there. Whatcha doin'? Cool. Hey, you didn't- Oh. I saw that too. Yeah. You're pretty. No. Yeah. I think you're pretty. Oh, that's your boyf- I gotta go. No. I said you look sh**ty, I wasn't- Oh no, I wet my pants."

PsionicDingo sums it up pretty nicely. Another annoying thing is the pauses. Sometimes he'll take a good long pause and you think he's done talking. Nope. Still has more to say.

Blasphemy!

I was worried when I heard that narrator comment-as-you-play is coming back because I thought it might be too similar to Bastion. After some playtime I have absolutely no complaints going that way, it is clever way to get narration into story and I honestly love what they did with it.

As good as the quality of voice narration is i was somewhat dissapointed to have Logan Cunningham voice the sword. For me the passive tone and character dialog just cannot compare to Rucks and unfortunately i'm constantly reminded of that throughout the game.

Fantastic game still :)

Thanks PsionicDingo, that's exactly how I feel. The narration in Bastion was written more tightly, it got to the heart of the matter pretty fast. In Transistor it almost gets pretentious, especially during the cutscenes, but that's okay because I'm ready to listen.

What's really getting on my nerves now is when I read something at the OVC Terminals or inspect the files. There is always a comment at the beginning and at the end. It's like someone is leaning over your shoulders and is talking about the stuff you're reading at the moment, it's annoying and not even insightful (because it's always someting like "Yeah, I was at the beach once too you know").
In Bastion there was almost nothing to read so every comment was appreciated (especially in the Shrine or the Memorial).

Nevertheless the game is still excellent, I just have to take longer breaks between each gameplay session to limit my eye-rolling.

Ugh... Watched one of the friends play that game. It was fun how between two of us most talkative was that sword, who kept on interrupting us at every single moment of time.
In Bastion it was novelty (although it managed to get old there, mostly becase I somewhat hate the attitude of Rucks), here it is fanservice. At the very least they could have find another actor to voice Transistor.
Still, might as well pick it up, since battles look interesting. Just without voiceover, prefer reading text.
