Client keeps redownloading hq textures folder
I've never grabbed the hq textures DLC and when launching the manual updater, the client is set for Full (~53GB) and not any other option, but the WT folder size is 84GB, with a 32GB hq texture folder that keeps reinstalling itself every patch. It's a waste of space and simply deleting it breaks the camera ingame, since it seems to be expecting the textures... despite no setting in the launcher requiring them. Any ideas?

Can you tell me exactly what you do when logging onto the game?

All I've done for months is launch, redeem login, and quit. I've checked the manual updater to verify that it's set to Full, and not HQ.

I've seen around that this is a recurring problem with the Steam client- something about some manifest files that point to the HQ files, and every time an update is pushed to Steam, the client will, even if you manually delete the hq folders, redownload them again as those manifests are part of the standard Steam download, which call to download the hq folders.

So, run the manual option, set the game files requirement you want. Then close the launcher and run the game from the Steam Play button.

The game has always been set to Full client, but routinely includes the HQ files in defiance of that setting

Please delete the warthunder.yup and the warthunder.yup.resume files in the War Thunder game folder (as well as the warthunder.yup.download if it is present in the folder). Neither the launcher nor the game should be running in the background when you do this.
When you start the launcher after this it should analyze the game files, download the latest warthunder.yup from the Gaijin Servers and start downloading the missing/broken game files. When it does this reset the Full Client setting.

you mean ultra high quality DLC - the hq files are part of the full / normal client.
