Saving crew skills
Hey All,

First post here. I have been playing for a while, almost exclusively in air battles and have a question about crews and that I cannot seem to find a satisfactory explanation for. When I train a crew on a plane at say tier 2 and get a few stats up a bit, and then I buy a new plane and add it to that crew, do all the skills I added to the crew on that old plane disappear now? Whenever I buy a new plane, does that mean I start fresh again?

I come from playing World of Tanks where you get penalties for training crews on different vehicles, but you don't lose all your points.

Could anyone shed light on this for me please?

The crew's own skills will remain no matter which plane is currently used in the slot, this includes "expert" or "Ace" status. So you can swap planes freely.

But if you take a plane from f.e. slot 2 and now put it in slot #1, the "Expert" and "Ace" must be purchased again for the new slot. If you later change the plane back to the old slot, any "expert" or "ace" aquired there will still be there.

The skills of the crew itself (Pilot, gunner, etc), never disappears, if you have a maxed out pilot, it will still be a maxed out one even when flying a new plane.

Here it is explained in better English....

This is correct.

To simplify it further; Picture each slot as an actual Crew. Unlike World of Tanks, Crews will remember their training on each vehicle they have ever been assigned to. Crew slot #1 will always be able to use the vehicles they did prior without penalty or retraining.

When selecting vehicles for those slots, they will be marked with different icons (filled in grey starts, silver stars, gold stars) to show which vehicle was previous trained/assigned to which slot.

Another thing to add is that crew skill points are universal for that slot. So if you play both planes and tanks, you can earn crew skill in air modes using planes then switch that slot to a tank and use the points earned using planes to make the tank crew better. Ideally, you want to specialize if you play multiple modes, having say the first slot be the best plane you can possibly have and use that for planes in ground as well (Ground Realistic anyway). So if you plan to try a new mode with new categories of vehicle to use, you can grind some matches with your favored vehicle type and save up to then get a head start on the new vehicle type.

Crew skils stay on the slot, for regular skillpoints that will be for every vehicle of that type you put on that slot, for expert and ace crew that will be only for that specific vehicle on that specific slot.

You can also obtain crew points across vehicles, like once you're happy with your air crews (or maxed out..) you can put crew points obtained with planes into naval or ground crews.

Thank you everyone for your good responses! There's also a guide that one of our Steam players created and won through a Guide contest we ran a couple of years ago:
