Anton, Gaijin.... what is going through your heads?
https://www.pcgamer.com/war-thunder-fans-organise-extraordinary-review-bombing-campaign-over-reverted-economy-changes-studio-pleads-if-your-goal-is-not-to-hurt-the-game-please-use-other-less-destructive-ways/

posted 20 hours ago via PCgamer.... 2 hours after the apology based on the reply comments on the warthunder apology post. I just saw it after getting home from work.

"The review bombing happened after the changes in question were already reverted," says Anton Yudintsev, founder of Gaijin. "These changes were nothing extreme, it was just a routine balancing patch. Anyway, we cancelled those changes last week as soon as we realized that our community did not like them.

"So right now the community is using the negative reviews as a way to express their desire for a change, rather than a backlash against a specific change. The game itself is now the same as it used to be two months ago (excepting routine bug fixes). This is a very fresh and new situation for both gamers and developers. We are ready for the change. Last week we announced that we’re working on a plan for a dedicated economy update, and right now we’re thinking that we’ll present the draft of that plan around June 14th."

From backlash, to criticizing.... to apologizing, to treating the community like trash again. Anton what in the world man.

Seriously. The backlash started BEFORE the update last week. The backlash has been going on for YEARS with constant silencing, pushing away and ignoring the blatant problems while trying to push harder grinds and longer research efforts needed to reach even the bare-bones. The only reason it seems like it JUST STARTED is because after 6 years of letting it fester, a vast majority of both paying and non-paying players are fed up with it and want to see the game prosper not suffocate itself under a corporate noose. You had plans to go through with it anyways (and nearly did), with no intention of changing anything prior to the outcry, and only reverted it after being utterly blindsided by the community recoil within hours of it being sent through. Do not try to lie through your teeth on this. Then you went and tried to treat everyone like under-aged children by trying to underhandedly explain how F2P games aren't really F2P, like a bunch of money-grubbing slumlords.

This kind of attitude and public backtracking is what causes the public and playerbase to look at you as a bunch of greedy backstabbing corporate stooges punching buttons and kicking babies for fun, and then crying that you don't understand what's wrong when all hell breaks loose.

Some people were satisfied with just some empty words, so Gaijin decided it's time to return to regular schedule, what else is new.

I'm not sure why this is surprising?

Their objective, ultimately, is to make money at the end of the day. They don't really care how they accomplish this, most people don't.

The community objective is most likely to have fun. The more time and effort it takes to achieve that fun, the more likely the community is to complain, or to leave. Negative reviews and negative commentary will scare off fresh new players who don't know what they are getting in to, and perhaps scaring them off will cost Gaijin money.

The hostility towards their community at all levels, their attempts to silence criticism and critical reviews, at all levels from the founder at the very top to discussion on forums and down to chat in game, reflect their ultimate goal.

Imagine the cows you milk start to stop giving milk and pull other cows into joining them. That must be pretty annoying and embarassing for the farmer.
"the review bombing happened after"
It didn't.
"these changes were nothing extreme"
That's true. But they are also not the only reason why the bombing started, this was simply the last straw.

Based on this, I wonder what changes they will try to implement next.

I find this quite funny to be honest because in my opinion it shows that to some degree he still doesn't seem to grasp the bigger picture here.

Imagine you were the British crown and after realising your greed just set off a full revolt in one of your colonies you think you can easily solve this tiny problem by writing a letter like this:

"Dear filthy revolutionaries, after long consideration we have decided not to go through with the tea tax after all. Now please go back to being good little subordinates and start behaving again. Yours truly, your beloved king. PS: Don't forget to pay your other taxes to the crown"

IMAGINE MY SHOCK, THEY ARE NOT BACKING DOWN hmm...

June 14th will be interesting. I'm looking forward to it.

Well, they been nerfing the economy forever now, nothing extreme is the right word imho. It just the community had enough.

I wish I could give you a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ medal man. This should be posted far and wide so the RIGHT statements can be made about WHY this is happening.

I would also like to assert that people have been rightfully upset for years now, the in game economy has been controversial for a LONG time and has been consistently the most discussed drama about the game.

The recent influx of complaints should surprise no one, everyone has had enough with the CURRENT in game economy. This isn't just about the previously proposed changes the current economy is insufferable. Hence why the devs published a statement saying they're planning on making changes.

It's dishonest to claim that the so called "review bombing" was about the proposed changes and since those changes were reverted the reviews are now "off-topic". It's just that now everyone has gotten fed up and the previous proposition just stirred the pot.

When your “ToS” is to silence and censor those who are critical and call for actions where it actually matters, then you can’t like this didn’t exist before.

I mean, if you live in a Democracy and do not understand the importance of the right to vote you should probably go on a watch list.

Unless I read this incorrectly (which I don't think I did), the system used to remove reviews from the overall score of a game is completely automated to a fault.

Source.

Based on this information it would appear that the "off topic" description of this system is a misnomer. It absolutely does not matter if your review is a short "lol game bad" or a lengthy 500 word essay describing in detail why you cannot recommend the game to others.

Valve does not care.

The "anti review bomb" system is a cold killer. If the algorithm detects an unusual spike in negative reviews over a period of say 24-48 hours it will simply mark it as a 'statistical anomaly' and then revert the game's review score to a snapshot taken before the 'anomaly' occurred. The reviews themselves are still there albeit hidden behind default filters that the common user is unlikely to disable.

So the issue isn't that some reviews had less than an ideal amount of playtime or even that the content of those reviews were "off topic" (again a misnomer). The reason they were hidden is simply because there were too many negative reviews pouring in within a short amount of time. That's literally it.

So if you really want your voice to be heard, besides the "no play" boycott this Friday on the 26th to dip the Steam Charts, the next best thing you could do is delete and re-write your review at some point within the next few weeks. So long as it's a gentle rain and not a downpour, apparently it's fine.

the problem is rewriting a review with actual content just to bash on a problem they refuse to fix may have alternative effects (especially for the die-hard fans.) Like for example I go into a ton of detail on ALL the problems about Gaijin in my review from over 6 years ago. Changing it now would be nothing more than restating the same thing I did before. which could be seen as "off topic" by their system.
