Kenshi

Certain skills/stats don't seem to level up.
I've been playing the newest version(s) of Kenshi for a few weeks now, but I've been having the same issue with every build in that some of my skills and stats seem to stagnate. My main (initital, really) character focuses on blunt weapons and heavy armour (the tanky pacifist, I guess) so I was excited when I heard that blunt weapons were finally their own category. However, his skill is still just "-" and doesn't even have a level. No amount of use seems to change this either. Next, his DEX has seemed to become locked at 35. I know it should level a bit more slowly as he uses heavier weapons, but it *should* still level up.

For example, his DEX will say that it is at 75% to level 36. We go fight some enemies and he gets in a few good hits. 95% now. A few more hits and... 2%TNL (should have leveled up, yes?) but it is still 35. It seems to be caught in an infinite loop and won't level up (this has also happened for at least 10 "levels" worth, so it is really behind now). I haven't been paying close enough attention to my other characters DEX levels, but I do know that STR and other normal stats will level up (even on my main guy).

Is this a known issue? I haven't found anything on it or anyone else mentioning it, but it has been going on for a while and I finally needed to ask. I haven't honestly had that many bugs happen so I hate to complain, but it kind of sucks when the one character who *needs* high DEX (to make up for blunt weapons low speeds) can't gain it. Add in that said weapon skill won't level and... = \

If anyone has any ideas as to why this might be happening, please tell me. Thanks.

I'll suggest you open new game to test

if you wanna keep your crews
there's a trick can copy(or say move) to new game
but I'm not sure if it will mess your new save game.
so you better keep everything back up.

and by the way, never set the first char as your major char
as I understand, some game data link to him
this cause me lots save game to understand.
and maybe DEVs will change it to all first squad crews or so.

so, once you wanna try this trick
you will have to give up the first char when you open any new game.
and don't move him to other save
cause that will totally mess your game.

hope this help

The progress display currently has a bug where it continues to rise and then resets even when you're not actually increasing it. It is just a display bug though. It still retains it's exp leveling internally though. Don't worry, it will continue to level up, but that display is not helping you know when :\

As for your blunt skill being "-", i'm unsure. I've not played with blunties yet..

Blunt weapons level heavy weapons instead, for the super heavy one you can craft anyway(forgot the name)

So the blunt weapons skill not leveling up shouldn't be considered an issue right now? I mean, if they continue to level up Heavy Weapons, I'm okay with that. I'd already managed to get that to about 39; I just figured that they should level up the "blunt" category as that's what they are considered now. I'll see if my new Heavy Club levels up Heavy still.

As for the DEX issue, let me see if I get what you're saying. The bar fills (50%, 60%.... until 99 and then levels) but this isn't actually the *real* percent I have in DEX? So despite the fact that it "appears" that it should have leveled up almost 8 times by now, it's really just a display bug that makes it seem that way. In truth, I might be at 25% or 87% or who knows? But it will level up to 36 eventually, yes? (Did I get that correct?) I hope that's what it is, because the bar has "filled" several times by now and it really seems I should have gained a level by now. If it's just that display bug, maybe I'll send him on a personal hunting trip to fight something with his ninja blade and see if that helps level up his DEX finally. Maybe using a faster weapon against some animals alone will see if that gets it up. Else, I don't know. Thanks for the insight though. = >

That is correct. The % being displayed is a display bug. It is not your actual skill %. And given that you're using a heavy weapon now, your dex is going to go up pretty slowly. It will go up in time, but very, very slowly.

If you want your dex to increase, then equip them with a light weapon. It will go up much faster.

The Blunt skill is actually increasing btw. It doesn't show in the stats screen, but if you open up the save in the FCS you will find characters that were using blunt weapons actually have some blunt skill. I'd assume the weapons also actually use the correct skill as well, since nothing links the weapons to the other skills any more.

Using a light weapon will significantly help you raise your dex though, as Lumi said. The lighter the better. :)

I found it's best to check skill percentages only when you're not injured at all. As in, every limb is at green health, not bandaged or red. Otherwise the dex percentages (among others) get all messed up.
So if you get injured in a fight, it won't show the correct value until you're back to full health. Just give it a try. Get to full health, note current percentages, get in a fight and rest to full health. Now check again. You'll see what I mean.

Thanks for all the replies. = D
I'll make sure to check out that issue with the percentages due to being injured. That could be part of it since I'm trying to build a base right now and we are quite seriously being attacked by bandits 5+ times a day. It's that or slavers, I swear. Heck, the slavers showing up and hating us has made it get to the point where some of my guys have over 6,500 bounty and can't go into town for like 2 weeks (*gets attacked, defends self, gets bounty* Lol). Point is, we are hurt *all the time*.

And yeah, I'll make sure to have him head out on an expedition with another guy or two for backup and only let him fight with his backup ninja blade. That should be just about the lightest weapon he could use. I know light weapons level DEX faster (I've been playing this game since the early days and still love it); this is just the first time I had ever seen it hit such a standstill (hence the topic).

Either way, I digress. Thanks for the help so far. I was a bit too busy making a midi version of the Skies of Arcadia intro theme today (one of my favourite games ever), but I'll try this out tomorrow and post something if it levels up.

Also the heavier the weapon the slower dex will increase. If at all. In fact I'm not sure ive EVER seen dex increase on my heavy character when using a very heavy weapon. I do use the heaviest one though. But dex it increased using very light weapons. Might wanna switch to a katana to train that up faster.

I don't think blunts are in the game yet, maybe I am wrong, but the following skills are greyed out on all my characters: Perception, Blunt, Mass Combat, Dodge, and Survival.

Blunt does seem to work though. All the others are not implemented, though some do increase. I'm guessing they just forgot to unlock in the stats screen when they added it.

Currently? This was 2.5 years ago and this bug is still present. My precision shooting % will show 60% then 80% then get stuck at 100% before dropping back down. Same bug also effects crossbows %, turrets %, etc.

As dex and perception level up the above percentages jump all over the place.
