Pet stats train
Is there a way to train pets ? Or do they just keep their base stats and never get better ones once they are fully grown up ?

As far as I know they should increase stats just like everyone else. Is that not true? I've never really had pets much in the game.

I use a bull in my mod and I've seen his atheletics rise as I use him as my traders partner as well as str so I'd assume they do - I've had dogs as well but I mostly use them as cannon fodder by placeing them infront of my gates so that when someone attacked they would hold them off long enough for my crossbows on wall to kill them

I only have one guy and a dog, and plan to kill leviathans with these too, one day.
they skill up just like your people do.

Just checked in the FCS, animals do have a hard set "Animal Strength" level. It differs between animal types, and can be different for animals of the same race. So for example, the Mountain Dog (50) you start with in the "Guy with Dog" start is more powerful than the normal Dog (35) found in the wilderness.

I'm not sure however if the "Animal Strength" is the animal's actual stength level, which means it does not increase. Or if it is a separate stat entirely.

They do increase. I started that start, put a backpack on my dog, filled it with copper put him on perma follow, and forgot he existed... At some point in my running around, he finally caught up to me one day, and had a 68~ str.

The pets stats seem to be more difficult to raise than humanoids, but they do indeed increase.

actually the guards at my friont gate are actually in a squad labeled Red Shirts so I know which ones to save first in a medical emergency and who to dump in the waiting room of my building I use for medical care

What about combat stats? Is there a way to train those? I bought a dog, and it has 0 in every stat except Dodge which is 1.

Pets have a stat multiplier related to age. A pup probably have around 0.33x his current stats. It'll be 1.0x at adult age, so just be patient and don't let the doggo die.

You can train animals to raise stealth skills which is useful for travelling, but Garrus have lanterns with their backpacks making it easier for hostiles to spot them unless you remove their backpacks. Once they reach level 40 stealth, they'll start running but not at full speed. Have to continue training them higher to increase speed.

The skills of my bonedog don’t seem to increase... e.g Athletics reach 100% but it still stays at zero

If you're confused about the use of any training, animals included:

1. set the character doing whatever you want to train it in.

2. Press [C] to open the stats sheet.

3. Hover the mouse over the trait in question

(un-pause!)

Wait a a few seconds and you'll see then if they're gaining XP.

Handy when you're not sure which skill is associated an operation.

This way you know instantly... Like, yes, you can train stealth and strength at the same time.
