No. They're limited to what you give them, what they loot off dead raiders, or what they steal from storage containers/workshop storage. And power armor with a core in it.

Didnt npcs bandits used to loot weapons from the player and grab weapons from nests?

only when they needed to or when slaves enslaved you.

Yes, they did loot weapons from you. I remember them doing it even when they had a weapon equipped. In fact, the dialogue still exists in the FCS for when they used to do it. It was removed and I gotta admit, its made me a bit salty.

ha i knew it @crux do you know a way to mod that back into the game?

Unfortunately it's not. They actually overwrote the enum with the one for looting food, rather than just removing it. So there really isn't anything we can do mod wise anymore. :/

There is the AI Task "Don't be unarmed" using enum NOT_BE_UNARMED that is used by only a handful of AI packages like Bodyguards and captured NPCs, escaping slaves and oddly enough, ones used by fogmen. Funny thing, I last got my weapon looted by a Mercenary that was guarding my base. Got knocked out near a prisoner cage and the prisoner looted it using the CapturedNPC package and then the Mercenary looted it from the prisoner who got knocked out shortly after from AOE damage. The mercenary was not in fact unarmed and still, using the Bodyguard AI package he looted a katana. He had a sabre originally on his back slot and the katana went on his hip. Sooo... maybe, just maybe that function could add some sort of looting back in, but I would be wary that it could lead to NPCs "commiting crime"

WE NEED IT BaCK tbh i was sure that i remeber it from the old world, running to beat the starvers to get the weapons from the nests lol

it makes sence aswell, that hungry bandits would loot weapons "cash for chew sticks" over thinking it lol but makes sence bandits most desperate wouldnt just loot some scraps of meat and leave, armour sets can be too heavy for too little profit, but nice shiny swords easy to carry helps you to get it to where it needs to be sold (by stabbing things for you) and lore plus game mechanic wise no one really gives a crap about stolen weapons as oppose to say unifroms etc

plus the chance encounters of various bandits which would normally have rubbish weapons getting the edge with a much better sword. mostly just applies to starving bandits but i always used to like that about them, even when it was my blades they were nicking

Reavers loot players weapon and use it too.

and they really shouldn't considering there taking slaves to fight for them, poor copy and paste of normal slavery mechanics (which are broken anyways) lazily shoehorned onto a different form of slavery poor game mechanics that will never be fixed...

i get your point thou lol lots of npcs take weapons police and slavers guild etc without being unarmed but for some reason litteral bandits dont?

They don't do it probably because they are only good with a certain class of weapon, if they have to match the weapon class before matching quality level then it could be too resource intensive
crux Sep 29, 2020 @ 9:18pm
Yes, for the Reavers they have their patrols and cage wardens have the "slave watching/stripping" enum SLAVE_WATCHING that takes weapons. Most patrolling slaver in the game take your weapons and though that task is separate from the "Capture Slaves" task they are always in the same AI Package. Not sure what sort of behaviors/bugs might occur if it was simply added to other non-slaver squads like Dust Bandits for example.

if your going for realisem thou i dont think thieves and bandits would give a crap about weapons class/ uality, especially if their starveing bandits armed with a metal stick lol

@crux yeah thats right, i dont fully remember but i might of tried adding that a.i before for a different reason. cant remember if it actually did anything but would presume they would just steal weapon from the downed and move on since in capturing slaves their two seperate actions
i might give it a test and see if i can get the starvers stealing again.
