eating food
ive googled how to do this and ive read over a few older posts, explaining how to feed workers and such. Ive made the barrel and stocked it full of food and I also have food on me, three bread and a meat wrap. I have traveled to the closest town and cannot eat my food, my character is suffering from malnutrition although I have these things in my inventory? There stolen if that helps anything. Thanks in advance

its not workers i wanna feed, i dont have any just wanna feed myself
try putting the food into one of your storage chests to remove the stoelen status and see if they auto eat it then.

Check the Hunger bar for some little arrows. Are there any? And if there are, which way are they going?

Eating is completely automatic. So long as there is an edible item in their personal inventory or in the backpack of a person in the same squad they will weat when they get hungry enough. If none is avalible they will attempt to grab some when they are hungry enough from a food barrel

I know you said Bread and meat wraps but just so youl know, Greenfruit while edible is Barely edible and will only be eaten as a last resort and wont restore much hunger.

How Malnurisehd are they? Whats the exact Number shown on the hunger bar?

thanks for the replies fellas, my guy finally ate the bread but only when i was just barely above 100, the arrows were pointing to the left. I was worried i might get in combat before i had eaten and the malnutrition negative effects cause me some trouble, any advice on keeping my guy fed? I have plenty of food just stolen. ill def put it in chests to try to remove the stolen status
as long as you have food in your main invinotry, they should eat it.

Stolen status should not have any effect on this. "Ingredient" foods are only eaten as a last resort, which requires a much lower hunger level (bread is an ingredient food), but that meatwrap should have been bitten into around 240.. :\

It sounds like something isn't working appropriately. Do you have any mods? If not, keep an eye on this and see if it happens again. A screenshot of the food in your inventory should help.

I dont know if this is still true but even unconcous a cracter will eat if needed. I do know that hunger is slowed down while in bed/unconcous.

As far as keeping fed. Just keep 2 or 3 food items in each perfsons personally inventory.

Me personally i dont think too much about it, every now and then ill glance through my squads to see if anyone has the Yellow bar "Starvation warning" background. and tend to it then. So long as i have food ive never had to worry about it though.

I think bread is sadly not counted as an ingredient food for this purpose. I know my people eat bread on a regular basis, despite having 3(!) barrel full of foodcube, meatwrap, goohan and the like. And the bread barrels are not even closer, they are actually slightly further away.

Depending on what you do, feeding your people can be very different. In the beginning I usually loot meat from dogs and the like, which can be turned into dried meat with a campfire. That's efficient and free, which is nice when you begin. Later on, if you have an outpost, you can produce food. It will vary of the fertility, but you can always do something unless it's a dead land.
Or, if you are more the wandering type, then you can sell loot to buy your own food.
