BUG REPORT - Stuck on the loading screen.......
I can't get to the main menu.
The game opens, updating levels, Refract logo, beta message, everything looks fine.
Then, when it's loading the main menu - it's stuck. I mean, the game IS responding (I checked in the task manager in my second monitor) with even the Steam overlay, but then.......nothing is happening.......... :- |
At some point, I tried using the controls on my 360 controller, I pressed the A button, saw the main menu for 1 sec, and then it took me to the level editor, with no option choice.........
I already tried to reinstall the game and verify integrity of the game cache. still no luck.
I have a cracked Windows 7 x64 with Service Pack 1
i7 Processor,
16GB RAM,
GTX 980 Ti .
Any help?

Yep, same exact thing happened to me when I tried to play the game 2 days ago, and I found out my problem was that my Windows wasn't updated enough! So when I updated and installed the redist file again it worked! And now the game works like a charm. Here, I'll post what this person told me to do that made it work. Hope it works for you too.

if you guys are using Windows 8.1 like mine, and your Visual C++ Redistributable 2015 repair or install fails, you might need to Windows update so that the 2015 redist installs successfully.

i got it running after downloading about 1GB of updates and many restarts after. if you cant use the built in windows update tool (recommended), download these from Microsoft manually, this is for 8.1 (choose 64bit or x86 depending on yours):

try installing NET Framework 4.6.1 first: NDP461-KB3102436-x86-x64-AllOS-ENU
(this was needed for the 2015 redist to complete succesfully, if you can install this you can skip these KB updates)

if the above failed start with this:
KB2919442 update (prerequisite for any further updates)

then Windows 8.1 Update (KB2919355)
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355

These KB's must be installed in the following order:
clearcompressionflag.exe,
KB2919355,
KB2932046,
KB2959977,
KB2937592,
KB2938439, and
KB2934018.

Finally, uninstall and reinstall/repair this:
vc_redist.x86 C++ 2015
Any word on what to do if you're still running Windows 7? We don't really get updates anymore, so as far as I can tell it was just Steam doing a bad install of the C++ redist.

EDIT: After reading what people have said in the other thread, the solution the guy above posted doesn't work in windows 7, and simply repairing the C++ redist gives you an error message. I don't want to have to upgrade my OS to something that's actually still being updated regularly just to play this game, so hopefully either Refract puts out a patch to fix this problem for all users or someone finds a fix for Windows 7 users.

have you tried installing .NET Framework 4.6.1 for Windows 7?
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49981
I am having the same problem as ©®™DJ Λrad Noam™®© to a "T" and I have tried a few of the ideas that have been floating around the forums to no avail. I also agree with glitchthe3rd That I am not about to go ♥♥♥♥ up my OS just to play a game. I understand that this is the beta but I have seen quite a few posts on this issue yet very lackluster responses from the team. If this game was free to play beta I would have said "Meh I'll wait for them to get around to it", but I paid for 2 copies of this game to play with my girlfriend and hers works but mine does not. If anyone cracks the code here and has a definitive way of fixing or getting around this please let us all know ASAP. Thanks

I noticed Refract just pushed out an update that addressed this issue, but I'm still having the same problem unfortunately. All I can think of is Steam isn't giving me the right versions of the software and I need to download them from Microsoft's website or something. Can anyone confirm if the software Steam is installing is indeed the most recent versions?
So after my friend talked me into upgrading to Windows 10 the game works just fine. Not to sound like a you-know-what here, but I've already seen slight but noticeable improvements in performance in all my games, and the installation process is easy if you already have Windows 7/8 and keep your files (not to mention it's a free upgrade until the end of July).

Best of luck to anyone still struggling with getting the game running in Windows 7.

Why? Refract, WHY? I don't want to upgrade my Windows to 10 (I've Windows 7)! Because it's bugged! Do I need to wait until thed bug will be fixed?

It might not necessarily be a bug... if the game is requiring code that can't run on an older OS, then it requires that code (newer vcredist and .net). If it's requiring newer redists for better performance optimization and better features, then it's better to require those redists and have those better features/performance instead of support an old/dying OS. There's going to be many, many more future games that won't support old OSs. You don't think modern games are still being written to support XP (released 14 years ago) or Vista (released 9 years ago), do you? Win7 (released 6, almost 7, years ago) is the next one to go.

I just wrote a big post about this on another thread. Could you all check it out and see if it's helpful?

I tried to see if .NET 4.6 would be helpful but it doesn't seem to make a difference. Perhaps installing it makes it possible for VC++ 2010 or 2015 to work properly. I disabled the install since it was incredibly time consuming and seemingly no help.

Whoa there, fear not! We definitely don't need you to upgrade to Windows 10. In fact I just tested on both Windows 7 and Windows 8 for you and everything runs fine on my end. Hopefully the post above will help you get the game up and running on Windows 7.
