Game runs poorly for me
What the title says. It has ran pretty much perfectly for me before but today for whatever reason it's decided it's going to chug and freeze like crazy. Is anyone else having this issue? This actually isn't the only game to do this, by the way. If it's allowed on here I can say which games are having weird, unexpected performance problems and which ones are not.

If the game ran fine before, then it's nothing to do with the game itself. Likely you've got corrupted system files - if I had to guess, assuming you're running Windows 10 then the problem is likely that the program priority is set below normal.

A couple things you could try:

1. Windows menu --> "cmd.exe" --> right-click, "Run as Administrator" --> type in "sfc /scannow" and wait for that to finish

2. Right-click the game in your Steam library --> Hit "Manage", "Browse Local Files" --> Find Distance.exe, right click and run as administrator

3. Start Distance --> Open the task manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) --> Click "More Details" --> Right click "Distance.exe" --> Click "Go to Details" --> Right-click Distance.exe --> Mouse-over "Set Priority", then hit "High" or "Realtime"

Just tried doing all the things suggested here, and although that sfc scan showed that I did have corrupted files (somehow) and Windows fixed them, the game still runs poorly. :steamsad:

What does task manager display? Is your CPU/Memory/GPU/Disk maxed out while running the game?

The game seems to be using Memory the most cause that's about 52-53% usage, whereas CPU, GPU, and Disk usage are practically next to nothing.

I had the same problem with Cyberpunk when it first launched. Have you tried raising the CPU priority of the game?

Yes, actually I just tested the game, and it actually runs fine for a little while, then it runs at 1 FPS again. Raising the CPU priority of the game didn't help.

Update: Ran it again, and now it's working the way it's supposed to.

There haven't been any game updates since Nov 2019, so it's almost definitely something external causing issues if it's recent, especially if it's affecting multiple games.

I'd recommend trying a clean graphics driver install. Get DDU and run it in safe mode to fully uninstall your drivers then do a reinstall of them: https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/performing-a-clean-gpu-driver-installation.65/
Make sure to download both DDU and the driver installer before going to safe mode, and choose safe mode without networking, so Windows can't try to re-download and install some other (wrong) driver version automatically.

I'm in the game, and it seems to be working properly now. Honestly your guess is as good as mine as to how. I just uninstalled Unity (the 2017 version of the game engine) and its tool kits.

I also had this. Rebooting helped.

Also, setting a display to 60Hz. before booting up the title, may also cause an increase in performance.

I think I've solved my problem and that problem was I evidently had an outdated graphics card driver, I learned this because I downloaded an Intel (since that's my graphic card and processor brand) Driver and Support assistant, and they said my graphics driver was out of date, so I downloaded the latest version (which was published on February 3 of this year) through that and now all the games I have work like a charm. Thank you everyone for your comments.
