A couple things you could try:
1. Windows menu --> "cmd.exe" --> right-click, "Run as Administrator" --> type in "sfc /scannow" and wait for that to finish
2. Right-click the game in your Steam library --> Hit "Manage", "Browse Local Files" --> Find Distance.exe, right click and run as administrator
3. Start Distance --> Open the task manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) --> Click "More Details" --> Right click "Distance.exe" --> Click "Go to Details" --> Right-click Distance.exe --> Mouse-over "Set Priority", then hit "High" or "Realtime"
Just tried doing all the things suggested here, and although that sfc scan showed that I did have corrupted files (somehow) and Windows fixed them, the game still runs poorly.
The game seems to be using Memory the most cause that's about 52-53% usage, whereas CPU, GPU, and Disk usage are practically next to nothing.
Update: Ran it again, and now it's working the way it's supposed to.
I'd recommend trying a clean graphics driver install. Get DDU and run it in safe mode to fully uninstall your drivers then do a reinstall of them: https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/performing-a-clean-gpu-driver-installation.65/
Make sure to download both DDU and the driver installer before going to safe mode, and choose safe mode without networking, so Windows can't try to re-download and install some other (wrong) driver version automatically.
Also, setting a display to 60Hz. before booting up the title, may also cause an increase in performance.
