4... ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥... Years...
In this space of time I've climbed a mountain, worked through covid at the hospital for two years, and moved twice.
Sort it out you lazy lazy buggers

I bought this ♥♥♥♥ on Bundle and its unplayable, omfg. xd
If it's not that there's a chance it's like my installation where the game will eventually load normally and you just have to wait it out. FWIW I've played this game every update since EA on the same computer and I can say two things about this behavior.
1) In EA and early on you could skip logos and it'd load instantly. A few years later and skipping logos would induce this behavior while letting them play wouldn't, and nowadays you get this behavior regardless except it'll be a bit longer if you do skip. It seems like it's a problem the game has had its entire life and only got worse as the years went on.
2) Launching it today has a 30 second-ish gap in the logs between the following lines;
[0085.71] Log: >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Initial startup: 85.71s <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
[0116.76] Log: heard FOnlineAsyncEventInventoryDefinitionsUpdate
Furthermore I had a black screen until that second line appeared and oh look, it has something to do with the inventory. Since other people have reported this problem going away when messing with their internet connection and not having their inventory afterwords I'd say the part of the game that searches for updates to inventory items is hanging or otherwise taking up multiple seconds of time due to how many inventory items there are.
Curiously this issue doesn't seem to happen on the EGS version but I sincerely doubt they do their inventory stuff through steam so that may be further evidence that it has something to do with the steam inventory or its servers/server connections.
I'm going to test the EGS version.
Using the EGS version actually fixed the issue for me.
Had same issue. In my case it was internet provider sensitive. Delegation from work to Netherlands from Poland. Game freeze with black screen. Turned off internet works fine.
This is maybe not solution (at least not fully) but easy to see if this affects you.
Regards,!@
waiting does get through this but then when i try to start a game offline or join a server the game crashes to desktop, this last thing only started to happen after this last Tidal update

1. Right Click the OneDrive icon on the taskbar on the right-hand side of your task bar, near the time and date. Note: You might have to click the '^' arrow to display hidden items in the task bar.
2. Click the gear icon for OneDrive, and select 'Quit OneDrive', followed by a window that pops up, and select 'Close OneDrive'
3. Run Killing Floors 2 and the issue resolved (for me).
In my case, it didn't matter if OneDrive was syncing data or not, but it significantly cut down the load times when starting Killing Floors 2. I also would frequently have the Killing Floors 2 window gray out and get a message telling me the application was not responding, and asking if I wanted to either close the application, or wait for it to respond. If I was patient, it would eventually load, but it could take upwards of 6 - 10 minutes. Once I started closing OneDrive prior to loading KF2, it started working as I presume it was intended. I actually backed up all of the documents folder to another directory, disabled OneDrive to start with Windows, and disabled data syncs of the Desktop, Documents, and Picture directories.
"Update: Unfortunately, it seems the test was a failure. Apparently, I got fairly lucky for a few test loads in secession. I loaded the game about 5 or 6 times last night while testing, and before posting with no issues. I decide to stop using OneDrive, so I backed up the files in my Documents folder, removed OneDrive from startup, stopped the backups it was doing, and tested again. The issue has started back up, and now even working through the previous steps, it still persists. This time around, I get the black screen with music, and it eventually loads, but I haven't noted the gray screen, and the message to wait for the application to respond or to close the application. I'll try some more testing later, but holiday time is running out and I'd like to get some games in, so I'll deal with the load time, at least it runs well once it starts up. :)"
My system specs are listed on my profile (with links to where I purchased them from in most cases), but here's a quick rundown:
- OS: Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate
- CPU: Intel Core i7-3820 Quad-Core 3.6GHz
- RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro 8 GBs x 4 (32 GBs)
- Video: nVidia GeForceGTX 1060
- Audio: nVidia GeForceGTX 1060 (HDMI > ASUS monitor > Pro-266 Subwoofer system with boombox speaker replacements)
Further system specs on my profile, I can provide a dxdiag report also if necessary. While I don't do reviews on Steam anymore (sticking primarily to my personal site since 2017), I have published a new review stating the details of this crash until this issue is resolved...
