Crashing (Gray Screen with vertical bars)
I'm really getting frustrated with this game. I don't play it much because I keep getting a crash at the same point almost 1/3 of the games I try to play. It's when a game is loading and the bullets (or whatever they are) bar fills up. Then it waits for you to press any key. I click it and crash. Total system lockup with a gray screen with vertical bars.

Now, I'm not stupid when it comes to computers. I've been building my own systems since the early 2000s. I have been monitoring my temps and they are all well within range. Tried without overclocking, no go. No system lockups when stress testing overnight. No memtest errors. Hard drives also pass all testing. Verified game cache, was fine. Reinstalled anyway three times now, no go. Well over 100 games on this system and this is the only one that locks it up. Graphic drivers are up to date along with all other drivers.



I'm stumped. Is this just a bug with this game?

Hi Denim Chicken,

Sometimes when you load a game on a very fast PC you can enter the match before your opponents PC has loaded the game completely. This can cause trouble so I recommend to wait a little while before you hit the "hit any button to continue" button. This might not be the cause of your crashes but it is worth a try. Please also make sure that neither the coh2.exe nor the steam.exe are set to run in "compatibility mode".

Well first of all, I don't think you get the "hit any button to continue" option in multiplayer, do you? I don't think anyway, I think it just starts playing once everyone has loaded (from what I can remember of the very few times I've been able to play multiplayer). I just tried three times to play multiplayer and upon fully loading it crashed with gray bars again without touching anything.. Not going to bother trying again tonight. Neither is running in compatibility mode. Any other suggestions?

Guess I'll just chalk this up to another company with poor support and bad game design and not make the mistake of purchasing another title from them.

Hi Denim,

Sorry for not responding earlier. I was away over the Easter holidays and did not look into the forums. What you could also try to solve the problem is to uninstall the game and also the folder C:\Users\***\Documents\My Games\Company of Heroes 2

That might solve the issue because sometimes files in the my documents directory are corrupted and those dont get replaced with a reinstall.

PS: You are correct. The "continue" button appears only in skirmishes.
