OKW Medic Truck first strategies?
Hello there!

Been playing some 1v1 with OKW (4 games so far) and watching lots of tournament videos from the past.

I see the same build almost all the time from OKW. No one seems to be using Obersoldaten and the Infantry Mortar thing. Or the Truck you can get with the Medic Truck upgrade.

Are these units just bad? I saw a couple videos of players using the Infantry mortar and I ask myself why I should ever build this unit over a Luchs? Obersoldaten also don't seem very good. Why should I build those when they are so expensive and MG or Luchs deals with Infantry much better and Luchs doesn't cost you manpower when it loses HP.

Is there something I'm missing here? Surely if players are playing the same builds 90% of the time, there is not enough incentive to build that medic truck right?

The LeiG ISG sucks at killing anything other than static structures or infantry in buildings. Obersoldaten are actually good but people are not using it because they already have enough infantry on the field after the flak truck is up. The mechanized truck also offers much better options than the medic one does.

Thanks for your comments guys. I did see a videos of Obersoldaten vs Sovjets and they did seem quite useful. In this case it was a Mechanized into Medic truck build, which I had not seen before.

The Obersoldaten backed up by Anti-Tank capping and laying traps seemed quite a nice tactic and this was able to lock down one point for a long time.

You can see it in this game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xN-FyRrXeAA About Rank 60 vs Rank 70 player

The Stuka zu Fuß also seemed very useful for its barrage ability against Anti-tank weapons and high damage in general. So it seems Mechanized Regiment offers the most useful 3 units, I have to agree with you.

Smoke from the Medic Truck mortar is of course useful. However, with doctrines you can use smoke from Airplanes and the puma does have (although unreliable) smoke options aswell.

I wanted to use more medic truck for healing purposes but I have since learned that you can click with 1 infantry group on the healing package and heal all units around it (so multiple infrantry squads). This allowed me to have much better unit preservation and I do not rely on the medic truck anymore.

Well as you gathered by now a lot of things Med provides can be somewhat replaced by other means and the unit selection is far more defensive in nature than what Mech provides. Mech units such as the Luchs and Puma are also very dependend on timing. An early Luchs can force the enemy to react, while a follow-up Puma rules out enemy light vehicles as an option.

The Med truck you can always place later and still get some use out of its unit selection and healing, while the Mech truck will only provide you with Stuckas, some extra repairs and maybe a Puma to sacrifice on hunting rocket artillery. But the Luchs and Puma will not have the same impact as in the midgame.

Med first has its uses against Brits though since the ISG counters their more stationary style well, shuts down emplacemenets completely should you ever encounter any and the AEC does limit your Luchs/Puma play a bit more than other lights.

Use breakthrough doctrine with panzerfusiliers. Rush the G43s. Get battlegroup HQ as soon as you can, then raketenwerfer. You don't need the battlegroup HQ units at all; just medics and reinforcement.
Get the Flak track if at all for some map control and unit suppression; but it's generally a better idea to go for schewerer panzer and get authorization for early pz IV

Your panzerfusiliers have AT grenades without techign so that's nice too

If you want to go for the units inside though... Play on 3v3 or 4v4. Get an IR HT and spam artillery with fortifications doctrine, PaK 43 Works wonders with unlimited object penetration too
