How does the Economy Work in COH2
There's no manual with the game, all I could find is this old steam thread,

http://steamcommunity.com/app/231430/discussions/0/864971765285259228/#p3

I've googled, and all I've found is

http://uk.ign.com/wikis/company-of-heroes-2/Resources

This says that resources are accumulated by capturing points? Thats it.

I've also found a thread

http://www.coh2.org/topic/2615/explaining-manpower-income-and-upkeep

It explains how manpower works in the Beta?

I've played COH1, DOW123, and SC2. This game is very poorly documented.

Some people say look at tooltips, sorry its just not enough info. People need to know.

  • Do resource points give manpower or just fuel/munitions?

  • Does the amount of fuel/manpower/munitions increase over time like it does in DOW2?

  • What are the upkeep costs? I can't find it shown in game, and after all the patches, does the old Beta thread contain the correct info?

  • A loading tooltip says that an area will produce more "resources" (which?) per adjacent captured territory. Is this still true? If it is, how is this calculated?

  • By how much does building a cache increase fuel/ammo collection?

  • I've also looked at some wikki, a lot of them look like they've been written by Relic during the Beta of the game and contains flat out wrong information.

  • Are "cutoffs" as simple as they appear. I've read threads about the LangesKaya map. They state that up north, it's easy to cut-off the player from 80% of the map. Looking at the map, I can't see what single point would do this?

  • Also, if I "snake" a series of points to a fuel, do I still get the resources, or do I need to capture all the adjacent territories?

What are Sega/Relic up too? I actually like RTS games; from their lack of documentation about the mechanics of the game they certainly don't seem interested in endearing new players.

Territory points give small amounts of Fuel and Munitions. resource points are specified by an icon on the map to be either Fuel or Munitions and provide larger values of whichever one they are designated. if I remember right, it's +3 Fuel, +3 Muni for Territory and +7 Fuel or +7 Muni for specialty points. Building a Fuel or Munitions cache over a basic terriroty point will add +3 to the value- providing +6 Fuel and +3 Munition for a Fuel cache, or +3Fuel and +6 Munition for a Munition cache. this bonus is applied to your "per-minute" income generation.

Manpower, Fuel and Munition reserves increase at a pace based on how much territory you have captured, and your Headquarters building supplies a small amount of constant resource as well. Say, for example your resurce HUD looks like this: MP:200 +290 M: 10 + 30 F: 50 + 15

One minute later, if you have captured no additional points and have not spent any resources, your HUD will now read: MP:490 +290 M: 40 + 30 F: 65 + 15

You have to connect territory by making sure the zone of influence extrends from your base to the point without any breaks. there will be blue and red overlay lines which denote which territory bleongs to you and where that territory border ends.

"Cut-offs" are specific Territories which are shaped along roads, valleys or other strategic map positions that break the field of influence when the territory point is captured by the enemy. They are simple in theory but not as obbvious in appearance if you are not familiar with the map. Usually, you want to find these long, thin patches of land and make sure to capture them as either resource denial for the enemy, or to secure your own chain of resource.

Upkeep values are based on the size of the unit, usually on a one-to-one ratio. So if you start with +300 MP per minute and build a 6 man squad, your resource per minute reduces to 294. This is cumulative, so you have to watch how many men you have on the field at any give time.

Hope this helps a little.

yes, this game should have a tutorial like CoH1 did. At least for the resources part

I mean, it does have... if you click on "Tactics" tab. But most people just want to jump into the game and never notice that tab. It should be built in to the first mission

OK. Great, thanks for the replies. Gonna cut and paste it into notepad for reference. Cheers.

You can view the electronic manual if you view the game's store page.:medkit:

It is very small tbh & mainly tells you all about the keyboard shortcuts etc.

heh. I actually have a physical copy of the game, and by extension the manual. It's a little thin, and I think that's by design. I get the feeling Relic wants people to learn-by-doing. This, of course, doesn't help people like the OP, who may actually *need* those stats lined out for them in order to feel comfortable with the game.

I think the manual needs some improvement, personally. Just to find the happy medium.

One more thing. Manpower never goes up above the starting amount. There are no points that prodvide Manpower in COH2. It just goes down as you have more units you upkeep. Upkeep is also based on value of the unit. So armor doesnt count as 1 entity. I dont know the whole formula myself.

The only way to increase your manpower income is to have units die off.
