Upgrade Building to Barracks removed?

Did Relic remove the ability to make a building into a forward barracks/HQ in COH2 like you could in COH? This was a vital strategy for me, and I really miss it. I DID just start playing COH2, but I don't see the option. Is this a Russian-only ability or something perhaps?

Yes they did remove it. You need a Russian commander to be able to do it. I dont think you can do it at for Germans.

This guy is the only way to get access to Field Barracks or Forward bases. I miss them alot too. I used to love the versatility and fast response a Field Barrack provided.

It's a jolly hard commander too. On the one hand units get an insane buff. On the other hands, it's better to stay forward of buff range or HQ will get mortared, there are no elite troops, HQ uses up your fuel, and no call-in vehicles for later in the game.

Thanks for all the replies and info guys. Bummer. Well it IS there (sort of) ... just have to pay just to get the one-sided privilege of doing it. ugg. I'm slowly starting to understand why COH lovers ragged on the sequel so much.
