What was the Obersoldaten really named during WW2?
I was searching on Wikipedia and Google about Obersoldaten but there where no findings except it was a rank the Germans used. Are the Obersoldaten a fictional unit or was it called something else. Or did is it like regular grenadier squad just a higher rank thus the name Obersoldaten? Any suggestions or ideas are welcome, maybe even answers

Ober when used in military terms such as obersoldaten translates into Senior Troops. or veteran troops.

Womb Raider "Ober when used in military terms such as obersoldaten translates into Senior Troops. or veteran troops". So it was basically a more experienced squad of grenadiers? Did they ever got named as a unit? And why do they get issued with diffrent equipment then the regular troops?

Yeah pretty much, they're veteran units that preform better in combat and have access to more powerful weapons. Usually veteran units or experienced soldiers had priority to better weapons than regular soldiers. Don't think there was ever a unit or such named after them, they kind of remind me of Brandenburgers or Waffen SS.

There camo resembles the SS parkas they wore, also excluding the SS units that participated in barbarism and leaning more towards the oens that particapted in front line combat

Thanks for all the answers, it all makes sense now. They must have been a powerful and a scary foe to the Americans and Russians

Waffen SS Panzergrenadiers
But since there are some babies that whine when they see "SS" Relic cant put that name.

And where is the difference to the Panzerfüsiliers? Panzerfüsiliers in WW2 were part of Panzergrenadier divisions. If you look at the rifle upgrade, I think, they mixed them with (Gebirgs-)jäger.

coh isn't storically reliable
Yeah, to point something out:

In CoH1, Knight's Cross Holders were basically SS troops.

In CoH2, OberSoldatan are basically SS troops.

The reason they do not call them SS, though, should be obvious. Instead, they have vaguely similar uniforms and are named something else.

Honestly, I'm surprised they even used the name NKVD for one or two of the Soviet doctrines. NKVD was not exactly much better than the SS.

I don't think its a matter of whining babies so much as not wanting to add in a unit that is composed of the population directly participating in the holocaust and had civilian death squad duties. I think we can all be happy that there isn't the potential to talk about how "Good" the SS are, even when it's in reference to their elite training.

There is a difference between racial targetting and rooting out enemies to the state from 1917-1935 that the NKVD oversaw, but yeah once Stalin solidated his power the NKVD kind of jumped into a kill everyone mentality.

CoH1 also had stormtroopers, who could also be considered to be Waffen-SS troops due to their uniforms and access to an MP44 upgrade.

Obersoldaten, also called "Oberschützen" was actually a military rank, but the second lowest rank in the german army. So it matches the "elite soldier"-scheme not that well.

relic is fucjing around with the name, obersoldaten does not exist. Possibly they are trying to refer to ubersoldaten without being cliche.

sturmtroopen would be a better name.

They are SS but, Relic afraid of negative comments. SS are associated with bad deeds. And they really made lot of bad deeds. They're probably from Das Raich division, experienced soldier from eastern front.
