MY prologue *(sory for english)

I wish to see POLAND as the fourth bigest army in WWII and World that time.
I dont have remind that Polish Army was fighting from the begining till end and never surrender. Poland was protecting Allies *(whom betrey Poland couple times and sell it to Soviets) and encrypt Enigma. Polish Underground Country was one of the planet idea and Poland as only one country being taken, never surrender nor make puppet state *(quick and without fight like France / Czechoslovakia/ Austria/ Holand etc). Polish squadrons *(most know 303) were best in air *(flying on new machines and not using english language)They still destroyed more German air planes then any english squadron fighting for own country.

Not concider take Poland as an Army is a big mistake. It was the bravest army in this war... Has some lack of equipment but not as they try to describe. And never charge with horses on tanks *(it is propaganda for idiots). Polish cavarly divisons were wery fast and sillient and they were fighting betwen two army lines for longer then a month. Polish cavlary was making sudden attack on tank divisions at night where they were making huge succes and destroyed couple of them tottaly *( what tank can do without crew and at night to horse which see at night and soldiers who know how to fight?), Polish soldiers take many points fighting with allies *(the ones Allied forces couldt get in many tries- Batle of Monte Casino and many others)

HOW THE WAR CAME TO POLAND

41. Why Hitler Attacked Poland?

From 1934 to 1939 Hitler repeatedly urged Poland to join Germany in an attack on Soviet Russia, promising her large territorial gains in Eastern Europe. Poland rejected all of Hitler's proposals. Furthermore, Poland's vitality and the decline of the German population made it obvious that by 1975 the Poles would have become equal to the Germans and that time was working against German supremacy. Indeed 1939 was the year in which the strength of the German manpower in relation to the Polish manpower was at its maximum. That year

was chosen long before for aggression against Poland.

42. September 1, 1939

At dawn on September 1, 1939, German land and air armies attacked Poland without any declaration of war, crossing the frontier at 14 points from East Prussia, West Prussia, Silesia, Moravia and Slovakia. Germany bombed all Polish airfields and 61 towns within the first few hours.

43. Unequal Forces

The relative strength of Polish and German forces in September, 1939, was as follows:
Poland Germany
Infantry 31 divisions / 70 divisions
Panzer units 1 division /14 divisions
Planes 443 /4320
Fire power ratio 1 /72

44. 35 Days of Polish-German War

The German-Polish war lasted 35 days, from September 1 to October 5, 1939. At ♥♥♥♥ the last of the major engagements of the war was fought on October 5th. The siege of Warsaw, capital of Poland, lasted 19 days in spite of heavy air and artillery bombardment. Warsaw surrendered , on September 27, when the armies had exhausted all ammunition, the water supply was cut, and 200 large fires were raging in the city.

45. Sept. 17, 1939-the Critical Day

September 17, 1939, was the most critical day of the German-Polish war.
On September 14, German panzer units had been stopped thanks to the resistance of the Polish armies and to the extension of German supply lines. The Poles began to organize effective resistance along the marshes of Polesie and in Galicia. But at dawn on September 17, without any declaration of war, Soviet Russia despite her non-aggression treaty with Poland attacked on the rear of the Polish armies fighting Germany. On September 28, Germany and Russia signed an agreement dividing Poland between themselves for "all times," along the Ribbentrop-Molotov line.

POLISH ARMY IN EXILE

46. Polish Army in France
Very shortly after the cessation of organized fighting by Polish forces against the German invaders, a Polish army was formed in France by General Sikorski. This army consisted of 4 1/2 infantry divisions, an armored brigade and the Carpanthian brigade, some 100,000 men in all. The first and second divisions took part in the battle of France; the Carpathian Brigade fought in Norway and was the first to enter Narvik.

47. Polish Army in England

After the collapse of France, General Sikorski succeeded in evacuating a large part of the Polish troops to England, where Poland now has an army corps including an armored division, a rifle brigade, a parachute brigade , and other units.

48. Polish Army in the Middle East

When the Polish-Russian Treaty as signed in July, 1941, a number of Polish prisoners of war in Russia were released, and a new army was organized on Russian soil under General Anders. Before having been equipped it was transferred to the Middle East at the request of the Soviet Government. With the Carpathian Brigade now expanded to a Division, it forms separate army corps. Polish ground forces in the Middle East number some 75,000 men, fully trained and equipped with the most modern American and British armament.

49. Polish Air Force

After the fall of Poland, Polish fighter squadrons were set up in France, while bomber crews were training in Britain. When Hitler attacked in the West, 133 Polish fighter pilots, fighting with the British and French Air Forces faced his air armada. They won 55 victories, losing 15 men. Yet the most glorious achievement of the tiny Polish Air Force was in the Battle of Britain, when it destroyed 195 enemy machines out of the total of 2,366 brought down by the Royal Air Force. Since then, Polish fighter and bomber squadrons have been continually engaged and up to March, 1943, had destroyed more than 526 enemy aircraft, 7 U-boats and dropped more than 6,000 tons of bombs on 42 targets in Germany and German occupied territories. In Tunisia, Polish airmen brought down 79 enemy planes as compared with 527 downed by the American air forces. Since 1939 Polish pilots have shot down more than 1,000 German planes. A considerable number of Polish airmen also serve as pilots in the Allied armies. The Polish Air Force now numbers more than 12,000 men.

50. The Polish Navy

The Polish Navy has been fighting for 3 1/2 years alongside of the British Royal Navy. Polish sailors have taken part in many important naval actions, including the evacuation of Dunkirk, the spirited attack on the "Bismarck," the landing at Dieppe, and the recent operations off the North African coast. They have played their full part in the Battle of the Atlantic and carry on an unceasing vigil with the fleets of the United Nations in the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. Thus the destroyer "Garland" fought a 6-day battle against Nazi planes and U-boats in conveying American and British munitions to Russia. The officers and crew of this "Very Gallant Ship" were saluted by the officers and crew of the flagship of the convoy and received high British and Polish decorations.

POLAND FIGHTS ON

51. German Reign of Terror

In his message to Poland, broadcast on May 3, 1941, Prime Minister Churchill said:

"Every day Hitler's firing parties are busy in a dozen lands. Monday he shoots Dutchmen, Tuesday Norwegians, Wednesday French and Belgians stand against the wall, Thursday it is the Czechs who must suffer, and now there are the Serbs and the Greeks to fill his repulsive bill of execution. But always, all of the days, there are the Poles."

52. 8,000,000 Poles Sacrificed for Freedom

The struggle of the Polish Nation for freedom and integrity of Poland cost the Nation 8,000,000 victims. During, that time:

2,500,000 Poles were murdered by the Germans.
500,000 Poles were starved to death by the Germans.

2,000,000 Poles were sent to forced labor in Germany.

1,600,000 Poles were deported from Western Poland to the Government General.

1,500,000 Poles were deported by Soviets to Russia.

348 villages have been burned to the ground and ploughed under like Lidice, 1,080 have been evacuated and all the inhabitants either killed or deported.

53. Directorate of Civilian Resistance

Underground resistance on the Polish Home Front is directed by the Polish Government in London, through its representatives in Poland who conveys its instructions to the Directorate of Civilian Resistance responsible for the organization of sabotage, the trial and execution of German criminals.

Poland fought a lot but they failed near universally, they got destroyed, their country fell quickly, they put up no defense the Germans didn't just laugh at, and they wern't didn't even cause the German occupiers real trouble until after Germany was pretty much screwed.
we're they relevant? definately. were they importnat or powerful enough to be the next in game? not even remotely close. I would rather see Britian or France, both of whom contributed more to the war effort.

You have to mention, that the Brits were also only able to persevere, because of all the members in their Commonwealth (e.g. Australia, South Africa) and the colonial countries they oppressed (e.g. India). I don't think that they would have had a chance without the troops from the other countries.

Really ElokoMs, using that pathetic communist oppresion BS as your argument for why Great Britain survived WWII, just pathetic. Its not like those commonwealth nations didn't willingly assist or that the British treated colonial dissidents (you know Ghandi, just a little jail time) better than the Nazis treated their dissidents (work camp for life). That and the British eliminated various cruel practices, like the Satee (you know, burning the widow alive with the dead husband) and it wasn't like the British didn't improve the quality of life for the colonies they controlled (not saying that they were perfect, but don't complain about "oppression" of colonial peoples when the Germans slaughtered thousands of Harraro people in their South Eastern Africa colony through starvation; the british may have interred the boers but they never purposefully starved them into submission).

This is funny.

I've been to Poland. I've got Polish friends. The border guards hated me crossing the border three times in a day though. Weird. Guess they take their German/Czech border more seriously now. Learned their lesson, maybe?

In all seriousness though, the vast size of the Polish Army and the speed at which the Germans defeated it is the textbook case of "lightning war". The Poles had an Air Force, a relatively mobilized military and a decent high command. The numbers should have made it quite a long devastating battle. Shocking to most of the world at the time, even Germany (and especially Poland), was how quick the fight was.

As the OP has repeatedly posted about the equality of the two nation's material during Case White, it serves to only further the case of Poland not being a good choice for an in-game faction. The fact that the first in a string of "million man armies" to be defeated by Germany was Poland also serves as an indictment of their military preparedness. Poland was effectively a totalitarian regime at the outbreak of hostilities and as such already had a large portion of it's military population mobilized. This furthers the case that Germany simply out-fought the Poles. Regardless of the actual material available to each side, the Germans clearly used their's better. For all of Poland's valiance, the reality was that their army just wasn't up to the task.

Looking at the results of Case Yellow, you can see that the equally sized (million man army) French military would not fair much better. Though for historical purposes both campaigns lasted almost as long (1 month, 5 days for Poland and 1 month, 12 days for France) and the West inflicted almost three times as many German casualties than Poland.

Poland will never shake the results of it's defeat any more easily than France will shake theirs. And as such, no one wants to play as a country known currently for being easily defeated.

Though if Russia picked a fight with Poland today, it wouldn't be 1939 again. I assure you.

P.S.
"Can't you stop saying **** all the time?"
You would all be surprised what words you can create with more than four letters!

Dude- Yes Poland has quite old equipment. Yes they were conquered but just after 1 month and two weaks after Soviets atack on the other side!!! Was easy for Germans? Haha Germans lost in Poland most equipment to the time they decide go breake pact and go on Soviets *(i dont include the huge loss in gorilla warfare when we took about 3k tanks down and much other stuff). I dont have to add that Germans roll over even without declaration of war, just like cowards. Dont even mention the fact that after Poland, Germans conquered many other countries and brave France with so OP equipment and big army without any shoot *(that was blizzkrieg) - after we gave them more then month to prepara. In the Second World War, the Battle of France, also known as the Fall of France, was the successful German invasion of France and the Low Countries, beginning on 10 May 1940, defeating primarily French forces. The battle consisted of two main operations. In the first, Fall Gelb (Case Yellow), German armoured units pushed through the Ardennes to cut off and surround the Allied units that had advanced into Belgium. When British and adjacent French forces were pushed back to the sea by the highly mobile and well organized German operation, the British government decided to evacuate the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) as well as several French divisions at Dunkirk in Operation Dynamo.

After the withdrawal of the BEF, Germany launched a second operation, Fall Rot (Case Red), which was commenced on 5 June 1940. While the depleted French forces put up stiff initial resistance, German air superiority and armoured mobility overwhelmed the remaining French forces. German armour outflanked the Maginot Line and pushed deep into France with German forces arriving in an undefended Paris on 14 June. This caused a chaotic period of flight for the French government and effectively ended organized French military resistance. German commanders finally met with French officials on June 18 with the goal of the new French government being an armistice with Germany. Chief among the new government leaders was Marshal Philippe Pétain, newly appointed prime minister and one of the supporters of seeking an armistice with Germany.

On 22 June, an armistice was signed between France and Germany, which resulted in a division of France whereby Germany would occupy the north and west, Italy would control a small Italian occupation zone in the southeast, and an unoccupied zone, the zone libre, would be governed by the newly formed Vichy government led by Marshal Pétain. France remained under Axis occupation until the liberation of the country after the Allied landings in 1944.

OK lets se.... Two big armies after getting free nice cozy time to preparations *(month and weak every day war in Poland) losing one battle and run away giving France ... So old fashion country with no equipment and atack without eny sighn 4 constant fighting for a month taking much enemies equipment and soldiers. Sory for swearing etc. But please understand me and don't spread weird stories about fast counquering Poland and atack Tanks with horses. It is discrace and disrespect to most brave soldiers in this war *(i dont want to disrespect others- but chances and situations were diferent/much harder). I see no point in trying to fight with stupid myths. Now i see i cant do it. Disrespect and superstitions to my country is huge and bigger then i expect *(It is probably coz most of players on Steam are young ignorant teenagers). Sory for any bad behavior. Fighting with so heavy superstition is hard expecialy when you fell emotional conection to some victims and heroes.

Poland AND France/Benelux were BOTH conquered fast. And you can´t generally say the polish were more or less brave then other soldiers, they fought only in a disadvantage, like many soldiers of other nations did too. I don´t disrespect your country, and i never said that cavalry really attakced tanks, but again a polish army in coh2 would make no sense, already in the beginning of the war their equip was highly outdated, and in late game they would have to use most allied equip, already seen in coh1. Does it matter, if a sherman/ spitfire is manned by poles or french or americans?

You don't have the best reading comprehension for English I guess. Or you would have noticed I stated that they were relatively equal in terms of actual equipment. Poland HAD A REAL CHANCE, but their tactics, strategy and other such considerations paled in comparison to the new type of warfare that Germany unleashed on them.

By the time Russia invaded Poland, it was already decided. The fact is, that the Germans, with little involvement by Russia, smashed the Poles wholesale. Russia is a non-factor for the results of Case White.

France, Norway, Yugoslavia, Greece, Hungary and the Low Countries easily dealt as much damage to German occupiers as the Poles did. Most on an individual basis. Some of these countries actually liberated large portions of their territory WELL BEFORE Allied/Soviet liberation. In reality, the large majority of Poles were either complicit or ignorant to their occupiers policies. Some actually helped the Germans when it came time to round up their Jewish countrymen. Not to minimize the impact of Polish resistance, but just because they did it the longest doesn't mean they were the most effective.

I've never heard of many of your "facts" either. 3000 tanks? Who kept these records? The Polish Home Army? I'd very much like to see a book (not a wiki link or a strange Polish title from the 70's) that has it's sources listed on these numbers.

I like how you dismiss other nations valiant attempts to defend their own lands as something that can't be compared to Poland. As if France and the west were going to change their entire defensive strategies based on the defeat of Poland because that's all the info they needed to defeat these new German strategies. You are the perfect example of a "hindsight is 20/20" kind of person.

And Poland was about as mobilized as a country could be in September 1939. They simply couldn't fight what was coming. It took THE ENTIRE WORLD and the atomic bomb to defeat the Axis. Poland just couldn't cut-it when fighting major powers in her day.
