The IS-2 is good as it is. Only thing it cannot stand up to are Panthers (as in at least 2) or getting chain stunned by too many Stugs. It needs babysitting (like turning the tank to faster turn the turret sometimes, making the front armor face the enemy, etc.) but it is a good tank. With the support from either a KV-8 or T34/85s from its respective doctrines, you are set up with a powerful combination.
It´s the only soviet tank with decent chance of deflecting Schrecks shots, a shame not to use that.
That's why it works even better with the KV-8 now. Your IS-2 might miss a shot on AT-infantry, but the KV-8 will roast them during the reload. Just make sure the KV-8 is the second thing they spot to be on the safe side.
5 T34-85 versus a tiger ans 2 panthers, with no more micro than clicking on the vehicle priority and attack ended up with a dead tiger and 2 panthers for the cost of 4 T34-85.
A captured stug, 2 T-34-85s and a couple 45 mm ATG bagged a KT at the cost of a T34-85 and both gun crews.
