Great idea!
It's true that for your every tank AI will have 2, but it will mindlessly throw them at your AT units one of the time, nullifying the advantage. The point is to make AI equal to the person who dropped, to make sure that one dropper isn't autoloss, and 2 times more stupid AI with 2 times more units sounds about right. Only problem I see with it is that AI ignores fog of war and attacks your snipers or artillery units in places where player would never found them, but that could be easily fixed by Relic before implementing the change.
Complaints like these show a total lack of any skill when playing assuming they truly find Coh2 AI that tough. I personally test units after patches against expert A to get some feeling of how they perform. I always win when testing, expert AI is simply AI with more resources and aggression than its lower ranks in difficulty. Expert AI is easy to beat in 4vs4 (so me and 3 Expert AI vs 4 Expert AI) or even 2vs2 because maps are small enough and forces are large enough that no amount of extra manpower is gonna change that.
AI tactics alone are moronic, with it reversing tanks against the enemy and the like. All that would change between expert and hard would be that there would more troops deployed. The same loser unit deployments would still occur.
Now you might then say, well if there is so few differences then why even change? The point is that the greater number of resources enables it mimic a higher difficulty that is more comparable (although not at the same level) to human intellect.
Moths has a point though. Every large team match I am in sees a couple of new players and maybe one or two veterans pitted against another team of veterans. In many cases I have seen new players instantly drop at the beginning of the match. This leaves those remaining at a severe handicap. Rarely do I see (although maybe thats because of matchmaking working every now and then) a team of green players against other green players. The only time such happens is during the dreaded steam sales or free weekends.
Replacing hard AI with expert AI seems like the easiest to implement change imo.
But since the AI can't retain any units, the existing army would've all died in the next few minutes anyway (giving opponents vet).
If anyone drops the game will instantly become lopsided with expert AI because it doesn't give up, it doesn't run out of resources, and it can see the whole map.
Comp stomp is just for people who can't play MP so I hardly see how "skill" is even involved.
Yeah, I said it. You lack skill if you think expert AI is too tough to play against. Remember that this change does not apply to 1vs1 as when a player drops the match is over. Only in team matches would this apply and as it has been made plentiful clear, Expert AI lacks any kind of tactical skill. It simply throws waves of soldiers at you and makes some of the dumbest units, like KWs or Scout Cars and the like.
Its not unbeatable and in 2vs2 and up it can be compensated due to how small maps and are the manpower production already. Simply making HMGs can counter the effin Expert AI.
Thus I think....no I know, that if you think Expert AI is too tough to play against then you must lack some degree of skill. Expert AI replacing dropped players would do far more than hard AI and would thus better replicate the potential skill a human has.
Lol of course there are people worse than hard AI. Just don´t expect them to be in the top 1000, hurr durr. AI never gets tired and caps. In a long game that goes beyond 30 minutes I´d rather have AI than like, 80% of any other person in the player base.
