Your personal favorite/best performing.

I like the Mobile Defence Doctrine. With quick capture of points, smoke dischargers, Ostruppen call ins, Puma Call in and Command tank call In they are pretty useful for myself.

Ostruppen handy as general troops, and for manning equipment as there are lots of them in a squad and they are cheap to reinforce. Puma is decent for anti tank, especially once they have earned 1 veterancy.

Otherwise I like the Elite troops one (I think) in which your troops can get G43's, stun grenades, Tiger Ace call in etc.

That's one of my favorites too, although I'm trying to use it less because I've been experimenting with different commanders lately. Unfortunately I don't have the elite troops doctrine.

elite troops doc feels like an easy win all the time those stun nads rekt everything in or out of buildings if there hit inside a building they get stun and have red cover untill they recover and cant shot back ,get out or retreat, same goes if you hit the whole squad outside of a building and tiger ace has like a 30-50 chance i think to stun any vichels everyshot and doesnt cost fuel but i rarely get to use it since we win by the time i even get close to call it in

Anything with a Tiger for teamgames (Lighting War) or Jaeger Armor.
For 1v1s I'd stick to Osttruppen, Mobile Defense and Tigers.

Best in terms of actual design?

I'd pick Encirclement

Best in terms of practicality?

Spearhead or Lightning war

close air support doctrine
love the stukas to counter mortar pits and blobs

Seconding encirclement for design reasons - although, I haven't really played it that much yet so I'm reserving judgement. My second choice would be close air support.

Encirclement and Mobile defence is my go-to for now.

Ostruppen Doctrine, since mass blob of doom, mass panzerfaust for tank rape (without lube), mass trench construction for strong all around defense, artillery officer increases the ostruppen accuracy so they become more viable, add 3 mg42s and a panzer IV, then its auto win for you, if used correctly

Something to note is that you don't need a single good commander you need three. Why? Because you should pick your commander as a response to counter the enemy. You need varied kits that will let you dictate the flow of tech/combat. I highly suggest having three commanders that will play in a completely different fashion. For example sometimes I liked to play with Spearhead, Storm and Jaeger Armor.

Spearhead is probably the best Ostheer commander right now overall. It has never been nerfed (other than limit to 1 on Tiger tanks) and has 5 very good powers. He has a very well rounded kit with the mortar HT (very good against sturdier mortar teams), smoke, recon plane, Tiger and the anti infantry bomb.

This is in stark contrast to a commander like Lightning War where in my opinion you have 2-3 completely useless powers. The movement speed might be useful about once a match but less so now that you can partner with an OKW player and hang out at his hospital. You should not lose enough infantry squads to make that power viable. Finally the G43 downgrade has been pathetic compared to the Mg42 for more than a year (you don't ever have a need to use the G43 instead unless you want a weapon and cant afford anything else).

Elite troops has been nerfed into oblivion. Elite training was really cool and stormtroopers are not. The Tiger Ace has been nerfed 3 times now (less dmg resistance, requires more CP, and no longer has stun shot). You also get the G43 downgrade with this pack. The stun grenades on top of the rifle grenade used to be brilliant. If you like playing with 2/5 great powers you can stop here. Be aware you have no map support attack (airstrike/artillery)

Jaeger armor/Fortified armor are both decent although the Elefant has been somewhat nerfed to make the JT more attractive (lol that's a good joke relic). Regardless JA has a very nicely balanced kit (the stuka bomb is nice b/c no flares) and you can chain it off the recon plane if you need to kill a static artillery unit. FA has smoke with the Elefant and you can use it with the command tank (both of which you can hull down). The only problem with FA is that it lacks an airstrike.

Festung armor is still good (notice most of the good doctrines have smoke?). You should probably never ever play with Festung Support btw (or Jaeger infantry or German Infantry). These three bad commanders have a poor mix of powers or were nerfed to oblivion. Jaeger infantry was amazing when you could have the Mg42 AND the G43 but since you can't anymore what's the point? FS has the best artillery in the entire game but if you want it that badly then play with Defensive Doctrine.

German Mechanized has always been a subtle but interesting choice. You can buy the Grenadiers with lmg for fuel (which can be handy sometimes) and put Panzer Grenadiers in the car for mobile AT support (make sure the tank was engaged first). The static Artillery is very situational but on the other hand if your opponent doesnt have a recon plane you can get away with using it. Spotting scopes are trollishly awesome. The large smoke drop can be really useful against British emplacements.

If you have it Mobible defense is a neat choice (once again notice.... good doctrine has smoke). You can usually make do with the call in to wait for the Panther.

Blitz is just kinda meh to ok because you'll probably use the big airstrike once. Once again you have the questionable movement power which is too expensive to use along with a high cost airstrike.

Encirclement is 99.9% map dependent and stormtroopers suck (hey look another 4 man squad that has an either or upgrade choice for weapons).

The only commander I don't have is Ostruppen but they have been nerfed (cost a bit too much) and they just got another nerf last patch as they require a point and have to pick up the supplies.

Joint opps can be fun for a comp stomp but no real player is going to let you get away with either fixed position for long ( unless you find the perfect spot behind some buildings on a very specific map). The Lefh18 is completely troll with the artillery officer.
