There's also plenty of records from people who actually fought Germany that comment that German officers and assault gun crews in particular were very competent; compare that to the Ukrainian farmers conscripted as largely untrained cannon fodder. If they were incompetent no one would of cared.
CoH is one of very few games that allows even a watered down, depoliticized German enemy that can actually be played (and killed), while there is no shortage of games where you can mow down maniacally evil nazis en masse. So I would assume that people that a have a more... moderate view would find CoH to have that as a niche. Germans are basically just "the enemy" and call the capitalist-communist alliance "the enemy" tbh. It's not like the Wehr announcer is yelling "the Jews have killed Aryan men" every time an MG gets rolled by a T-70 or "with MP40's we can exterminate the Jews even faster" on upgrades. It's just a generic faction with generic lines. Soviets will call them fascists, the DP28 upgrade on Guards Rifle for example, so its not like it's completely sterile.
There's also a lot of cringe tankies and communists that have an even larger body count to dismiss so...
What OP said is correct, to argue against it is...odd
There's a lot you disagree with but that doesn't make it wrong.
As for the whole depoliticised thing, no one said there's a problem with german represenation in this game, it's done in a way that actually lets the game get played.
OP is more cringed out by the amount of people with nazi pfps, and wehrboo stuff overall in the discussions
- Nuclear bombs were NEVER used against Germany. Or Europe.
- If anything, there were actions in Norway to STOP Germany from gaining a dirty A bomb.
===========
- Agree with everything you said.
- Not 100% sure about Soviets rolling over them on their own.
Germans had to invest a lot in norway/scandinavian/France/Italy defense.
If the Germans had been able to 100% commit to Eastern Front, it'd have been a different
story.
Makes me think of something Napoleon said :
Do not fight so much with an enemy that you teach them your art of war.
Germans DEFINITIVELY did that with Soviet Union.
If only Mussolini had not delayed German's onslaught on Moscow for a few precious months
with Greece.
But yea, the issue is not with Germany as a nation.
But with the fanboys who wear SS caps and Uniforms while playing.
Part of why they were so heavily outnumbered is they had to deal with :
- Defending Italy.
- Defending Norway and assorted Scandinavian.
When you spread yourself out so thin... you can't help being outnumbered.
If they'd been able to devote themselves to USSR smashing EXCLUSIVELY from 1941+ on.
They might have crushed USSR.
But that didn't happen.
As a matter of fact, Stalin was hoping to conquer ALL of Europe while Hitler was
busy land-invading England (Operation Sea Lion). But 1) Operation Sea Lion was
cancelled... just as it should have been launched, and 2) Trotsky civil war 3) Denial
that Hitler would go on the border to face 40,000 Soviet Paratroopers ready to attack.
(who ended up being used as regular infantry for basically the whole war).
I hear so much half-baked historical waffle here. Shame people can't immerse themselves in a game without trying to re-ignite WW2 on social media.
"Jesus, Heimdall313!? Tie your ♥♥♥♥♥♥' laces!"
But by 44' (Heimdall seemed to think the pincer was what caused the loss) The Soviets were fielding about 6-10 million men, on one front. They had made 80,000 t34s compared to the 3000 panthers and even less Tigers the Germans had made. And t34s weren't as useless irl as they are in this game.
But discussion on WW2 Wehrboo myths isn't really what the discussion was for.
As with any media where people can express their opinion, there will be extremists. A game with playable Axis...yeah.
Right but wrong.
Soviets did make a lot of T34s but they lost 'em just as fast.
Tigers and Panthers were nice, too, but they were mostly lost because of technical issues.
Broken transmission, out of fuel, etc
At Stalingrand, Stalin decided to pull the Siberian troops (To ward off the Japanese).
Japanese too busy raping Chinese and worrying about the Americans to want to pick
a fight with the Russians. So Stalin, tired of the Stalingrad stalemate, decided to throw
his Siberian troops in there. Fun side note : The remaining Siberian troops made sure to
look VERY busy to convince the Japanese there was still masses of armies there.
Actually, instead of T-34s, the Russians had SO many IL-2 sturmoviks, and they
now ate messerchmitds for lunch. And they had more IS-2s than Germans has Tigers,
King Tigers OR Panthers. So...
I own a Panther, two T34s (/76, /85), and a CANADIAN M4E8 Easy eight models :)
