Bunkers cost and have fire port of 90°
Trenches have 90° + 90° and are free.
They're quite good actually.
Bunkers don't fire to the side either.
In a big open space where you can't connect the out of bounds scenery with wire sandbags or tank-traps leaving a visible gap along the edges its a ideal blocker, a ideal configuration is to back the area being defended with sparsely obstructive tank traps for green cover to fall back to should they need to leave the bunker (flamethrowing troops breaking past your lines) or it is destroyed by armor.
Well, that is helpful to some extent.
vickers HMG benefits from it by getting +range
vehicles cannot run over it
it gives IS their rof bonus
it is green cover
enemy troops on top of it cannot receive any benefit from it if someone is inside
disadvantages:
it counts as a garrison so firenades and flamethrowers deal extra damage
mortars deal full anti garrison damage against it
since it is a garrison it actually has worse receiv acc benefits over normal green cover
enemy troops can use it (many years ago only IS could use it)
In a trench an HMG can only face one of two directions.
Mortars (if using mod that allows them in trenches) and infantry can fire in any direction from a trench.
Flamethrowers do double damage against squads in buildings, including trenches. But not to units behind sandbags.
Trenches take time to evacuate, sandbags do not.
I like trenches, but you have to be careful about using them.
