90% Games Crash (possibly Win XP issue)
Sorry for bringing this up again but even after playing on 2.3 this issue hasn't improved and I'd like to see if this can be resolved somehow. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

I've played about 20-30 multiplayer games overall, and about 90% of them crashed at some point, sometimes after 10 minutes, sometimes even after 30 or 40 minutes. The game just exits and I see steam saying "app already running". Also a mdmp file is created in the game's folder, I can send that somewhere if it helps.

As far as I know the crashes occur in all types of maps, settings and numbers of players, and they appear entirely random. I've tried various things that people advised me to do or that I read around here including but not limited to: disabling the scoreboard, uninstalling all Workshop mods, reinstalling the game, verifying game cache, updating graphics drivers, disabling notifications in game (F1), not building a market (someone suggested it was game-crashing), running Steam in offline mode, closing all other applications, closing explorer.exe. Unfortunately none of them had any effect on the crashes.

My system:
AMD Phenom 8650 (triple-core), 2.3 Ghz
4 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 630
Windows XP home, SP3

I hope this can be looked into. Thanks for reading.

We're continuing to look in to this. In the meantime, some users have reported success with the following workaround:

1. In your Steam Game Library, find the game. Right click it and click Properties.
2. Click the "Set launch options..." button.
3. Type in NoStartUp and click OK.
4. Click the "Local files" tab.
5. Click the "Browse local files..." button to open the game folder.
6. Delete (or rename) "Launcher".
7. Make a copy of "AoK HD".
8. Rename the copy to "Launcher".
9. Go back to the Steam properties window and click Close.

Same issue, this game wasn't tested on XP I take it? I'm sure this has been suggested before but isn't it possible to engineer the multiplayer mode so that you can rejoin games after disconnecting?
Knoxy May 10, 2013 @ 6:52pm
Yeah that would be a good fix. Ugh annoying not knowing weather they have any intention to fix it..

Guess they've gone back on their word??..

Same problem. Sometimes I get 20 minutes into a game and it totally freezes my computer, forcing me to do a hard reboot. Sometimes it's only 5 minutes. But about 90% of the games are wrecked.

I have this problem too (just exit without any error message and see "app already running"). My system is also Windows XP. I found that If I disable steam ad popup option, the chance of crash will be greatly reduced. But the game still crash occasionally. I hope a fix patch will be out soon!
