cant start game (vista issues)
apologies if this is a rehash, seems to be so much wrong with this that i didnt find it in the pages i looked through, but when i open up the game everything works fine, cinematics, home menu screen, game setups screen, even the little prologues leading up the game start, but as soon as it goes to start a game i get 2 music notes and it crashes without explanation, i mainly see people with XP having issues but havent noticed many problems with vista, i meet the minimum requirements on a 32bit vista basic system, any suggestions?

Please see if this helps:
1. In your Steam Game Library, find the game. Right click it and click Properties.
2. Click the "Set launch options..." button.
3. Type in NoStartUp and click OK.
4. Click the "Local files" tab.
5. Click the "Browse local files..." button to open the game folder.
6. Delete (or rename) "Launcher".
7. Make a copy of "AoK HD".
8. Rename the copy to "Launcher".
9. Go back to the Steam properties window and click Close.

I'm having the same issues, I have yet to figure it out after trying MANY things.

Garmenbozia, I have done what you suggested (I read it somewhere in this Forum.) I changed all the permissions to give me full power (even though I am the only admin on this PC). I added "nostart" to the game properties. I stopped my virus protection and malware software, and made sure no other applications were running. I reinstalled AoE and Steam, TWICE. I changed the in-game settings to unalias, no vert and window-sized. There were other suggestions, but I stopped writing them down out of frustration.

I spent hours (no exaggeration) trying to fix this problem. Finally I was able to get in to play a game yesterday. I don't know which "magic thing" worked, but I assure you, I tried them all.

Now what happens is: after every game, and sometimes during a game, my computer freezes completely. I can't [TAB] to the desktop and I can't minimize the game (even if window-sized) to use the Task manager to kill AoK. I wait a few minutes, then I have to do a hard reboot. Sometimes that works and I can play again, sometimes I have to do a hard reboot AGAIN and then it will work.

I have a Vista, 32-bit Dell comp, 6 years old.

Any advice you could offer would be swell, I love this game and I think it stinks that so many are struggling with it.
