But yes I definatly made sure we were on seperate teams and that the teams were locked.
Hmm. No idea then, sorry! I play with friends against the AI pretty often and I've never seen this. It's really odd, and sounds like quite an annoying glitch. Hopefully someone else will know.
What difficulty do you have the AI on? On lower difficulties it will swap teams.
Since it was our first attempt at "hardest" difficulty and they were allies, we swapped to lower ones thinking it was just a bug on that difficulty but now the AI on all difficulties become our allies. Even if the teams are locked and balanced (same amount on each team).
Also tried with and without treaties, still our allies.
Teams are 100% locked and 100% on seperate teams from ourselves.
Never found anything out. nice to see bugs lasting this long though!
My wife had this issue. It's a bug. But we found a solution!
It worked on Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition, but should work here too.
Create a new solo game with 1 IA, unmark "Locked Teams" and mark "Treat Expires" to 5 minutes. Start the game, wait for the treat to expire and change the diplomacy from ally to enemy. Check if it changed properly. After that, leave the game.
Then start your next games without treat and you'll be fine!
I hope it helps future players.
