You are right, they don't seem to care too much about it, I have some issues with resolution but I'm not receiving any support here. I was expecting a lot from this "remake"
Just a quick tip get a better pc you shouldn't turtle lag in multiplayer. For wan lag don't play people in different regions like if your on the east coast usa don't try to play an au/nz game or china but you can actually play EU people fine. A good rule of thumb keep the latency under 300. Now some people like myself have incredibly fast internet but i still can't play people in aus/nz i suspect the frame packet rate is very small in this damn game. To help with turtle lag google change processor affinity. It really helps to get aoe2 hd.exe off cpu0 if you have a muli core processor computer which you should. AOE2 doesn't seem to do a good job with dynamic load sharing yes sure people will say i am crazy just try it you'll a huge diffence put the load on cpu1-3 if you are hyperthreading take it off cpu0 & cpu1. Good luck it's a great game and these simple tips should help your problem.
Also. Make sure you put in firewall exclusions for aoe2 hd.exe and virus scanner exlusions for on access aoe hd.exe. You can allow the directory to be scanned by your full virus scan but the on access piece disable it for that dir if you can. You need to setup your network router to be able to access your steam client see below article.

If you don't know how to setup port forwarding on your router google it. Also be sure to set a static ip for your network card in DHCP or hard code it in windows. I do recommend taking the time and doing this in dhcp leases you can get your mac address from ipconfig /all or even arp the ip address from another pc. This is strictly to make sure your portwarding is going to the correct ip address.

Man steam is a big piece of s... !!! I want my money back too !!! I though that steam will make easy to play AOE2 again like the old times, but to have fun with this game we have to resolve TOo many problems !!!!
Yeah it's not like the old days like when an out of sync happened just that player dropped not everyone else. But once you get all the ports setup and small tweaks it's really a lot of fun also you can disable vertical sync, shadowing, antialias object shadows and render 3d water for better performance.
You probably should have read more.
Damn and when I think that I have everything solved regarding latency and port forwarding and I'm ready for some games but the fu*king resolution doesn't let me enjoy the game! damn..
I play the game on 1920x1080

I can't do the full desktop mod because my monitors aren't the same size and putting my 27 inch in a small vertical height looks funny so I just run it full screen. I was running an hd5700 but i upgrade today to the hd7870 thanks to cyber monday @ newegg :)

Lucky you, when I lauch the game, I mean getting in a real game, only the tc takes 1/3 of screen lol. when I'm in menu ingame, res is ok (1366x768)
What kind of video card do you have Orvis? I think you should make a thread on this topic.
I made it already, scroll down 2-3 topics, AMD Radeon 8570 HD 2gb is my video card
Right on man was just trying to help you. Always good having new players in the community and I agree I wish you didn't have to do these things but it does help a lot. I hope you get your money back but if you give what i said a shot and try playing it's really rewarding good game play thou it is a bit old and crappy graphics i know. I hope you stick around. take care and good luck at whatever you chose to do.
The game runs on a peer-to-peer connection between the individual players. If you're getting lag in games, make sure that all players have the necessary ports open on their network, and that you have a low ping to each.
For games like AoE peer-to-peer is standard and usually way better than a dedicated server.. Still - this remake is currently to laggy, especially compared to the original (which had p2p as well, just FYI).

Same. All I want now is a refund. I know it's 7$ that I paid, but it's about principles.. I didn't expect them to have THIS unstabil servers for multiplayer.. I really didn't. Players, playing together online on GameRanger with a cracked version of AoE runs it MORE smooth with 8 players than Steam, it self.

LOL! :D I can totally agreed.
