Totally blank main menu, no words in it.
Hi all! I bought and installed yesterday the game (pack AoE II HD + The Forgotten expansion) and it all works nice, correct resolution and good graphics, but no letters appear in the main menu. I mean, buttons work perfectly and everything is correct, the only thing is that there are no words anywhere, neither in-game. Looks like a font trouble, I sincerely don't know.

Has anyone the same problem, is there a solution for it? Thanks!

Nacho, i think i found the solution. Since the other workaround i put on the other thread doesn't work for you, how can i contact you?

Since your game localization is different, maybe we have to try several times.

If you could, copy the whole content of "es-language_x2.txt" and paste somewhere, maybe pastebin, goldpaste or something like that.

The problem is some strings at the begginng, of that file (Also es-language.txt, but fixing one will help to fix the other), and maybe at the end, not sure. So, let me know if you paste the strings somewhere.

Hi Montcer! Don't worry, after some Steam and PC restarts I don't know how but this trouble got fixed. I can see everything correctly, text included.

Thanks for your help and interest anyway! :)

Good!

Anyway, could you paste the strings anyway?
Nacho Nov 11, 2013 @ 4:27am
Of course! Here are both copypasted files:

es_language: http://goldpaste.us/p/7afd6184
es_language_x2: http://goldpaste.us/p/a41b8955

Thanks man.

For what i do compare, your strings are the same (But different language). So, this must be a problem on the game engine.

Solution that worked for me when get blank buttons: Restart Windows.

That's exactly what I did, so future players with the same problem, try restarting Steam and Windows before asking for help!

Yep, restarting should solve this. It's an issue of fonts not installing correctly, the PC will need to be restarted to finalize the process.

I found a work around that force texts to appear, but not with right fonts. A file called "language.txt" starts with this line:
"101" "204"

That file cames with the game on starter versions, don't know why it dissapear now; maybe is not needed anymore i guess. But if i add that line to the end of new string file "en-language.txt", the buttons appear but with another font, i guess Arial.

If i add some string to those lines and add "any_font_name", buttons goes blank again. So i guess could be easy to fix, maybe forcing the game load a default Windows font in case it can't load set ones.

Hi guys! Trying your stuff but i'm not sure i understand everything. Where should i copy/paste the files? I restarted my comp thrice it still doesn't work. Should i precise i have windows 10?

This is a very old thread. If you still have this problem, verify your game files and restart steam/your pc afterwards, then it should hopefully work.

Woah, it's been a while from that! I don't remember how it all worked out, but as I can see just by restarting your computer and Steam should fix everything

I've been having this same problem for the past couple of days. Whenever I try to play the game there is no text on any of the buttons.

I've restarted my computer several times and that hasn't worked.

Verifying the integrity of the game cache didn't work.

Copying the fonts from within the game folder into the fonts folder within Windows didn't work.

I've even tried uninstalling the game, restarting, deleting any remaining folders, restarting, installing the game and restarting again and that didn't work.

I'd like to help you but I can't, I'm sorry, I've no idea how and why but restarting the computer and Steam worked for me, that's all I know. Try to contact Microsoft AoEII support service, they didn't answer me at all but you may have more luck.
