If you have your own hotkeys back in old AOE 2:
1. Go to the main game folder
2. Seek and copy the file "player1.hki" assuming you are the only player on the game. If you are not, then seek for "playerX.hki", were X will be your player number.
3. On steam games folder, paste the file inside "savegame" folder.
If you haven't the old AOE or just want that old default keys return:
1. Inside AOE 2 HD steam's game folder, seek for the files "en-language.txt" and "en-language_x2.txt". Should be on "Bin\en\".
2. Open both with some text editor and seek for the line 6888 that begins like this:
"//Shortcut hotkeys overrides -- NO LOCALIZATION REQUIRED"
3. Down some lines until it starts the override, then delete all overrides. BE SURE TO ONLY DELETE HOTKEYS OVERRIDES! The rank you want to delete is from "4151" to "16731", or at the very beggining of the next section, which starts like "//DO NOT TRANSLATE THESE -- all of these are file look ups ..."
4. After delete the hotkeys override, save the file. Must do the same on both files.
5. Your old hotkeys are done.
The old hotkeys file may not always work by itself. The game may not recognize it and end up replacing it with the new default hotkeys. You'd have to convert it to a 3.0 compatible version.
Here's a link[aokhotkeys.appspot.com] to view/download a 3.0 version of the AoC defaults (new hotkeys since AoC are unassigned). Just click on "Generate .hki file" and as montcer9012 said, place the downloaded file here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Age2HD\savegame\player1.hki
That happen; you already have customized keys, so i bet that in your game folder exist a file called "playerX.hki". If you erase that file, you will be facing new hotkeys.
Make a try and tell us what happen. Of course, don't delete the file, just move to another location like desktop, or My Documents.
Indeed.
They changed it because "Forgotten Empire" modders were the ones who assign it, and those keys are the ones used in their original AOE2 expansion pack.
