With the following setting:
1. CPU - Intel i7-1165G7 (Recent CPU on Jan 2021. Superior in Single Core Performance, but weak in CPU Memory Latency according to UserBenchmark - https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i9-10900K-vs-Intel-Core-i7-1165G7/4071vsm1195374)
2. Discrete display card omitted
3. Applied the setting mentioned in "Max Game Performance Guide for AOE2HD 5.x" - https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=629054203
4. Resolution: 1920 x 1080, Low graphics setting, Gaming Speed: Fast
5. Apply the cheatcode "setmaxfps 30" or even "setmaxfps 20" during the game (limit the the fps during the game to max 30 or even 20 - this can help relieve the lag situation)
During the most worst performance scenario when all the 7 enemies existed and direct attack by land to the green player started, the result is as followed:
1. "setmaxfps 20" (fps keep on 15-19): minimal lag (suddent low fps) and no stutter (stunned display during gameplay - maybe caused by high CPU single core performance but relatively low CPU Memory Latency)
2. "setmaxfps 30" (fps keep on 18-26): minimal lag but few stutter
Note:
1. Suggest to attack the enemies by sea (i.e. longboats and transported trebuchets) to avoid provoking too much enemies' land units.
(one of the main reason of lag situation according to "Cause of the huge lag in SP" - https://steamcommunity.com/app/221380/discussions/2/666826069112431416/)
2. Suggest to attack the enemies in this sequence (quite smooth after testing for several months)
Set in the Isle of Man -> Green (by sea and "setmaxfps 20") -> Pink (by sea and "setmaxfps 30") -> Grey (by sea and then by land) ->
Light Blue (by sea) -> Orange (by sea and then by land) -> Yellow (by sea and then by land) -> Blue (by sea and then by land)
3. Using the above attack sequence, after the Green is defeated, the lag situation will be much relieved
(CPU Intel i7-1165G7 and "setmaxfps 30" can keep fps on nearly 30 most of the time)
4. It should be noted that AOE2HD uses single thread during gameplay so only CPU's Single Core Performance and Memory Latency can help on the game's performance
