AOE2 HD cheat codes giving me 10,000 instead of 1,000

i play this game solo on the hardest setting with all other civs on one team and try to win under different conditions. i use the cheats to give myself various boosts based on the situation

anyway, AOE2 is suddenly giving me 10,000 units of gold/wood/food when i use the standard cheat codes that have always given me 1000 units. this screws up my balancing bc 10,000 is way too much and gives me too big of an advantage to make it competitive for me

i cant find any indication that the cheats have changed or perhaps are different for HD or for Steam. so right now im stumped why its doing this. interestingly, i think AOE3 does actually give 10,000 per cheat, but i cant see how AOE3 would change settings like that in AOE2. besides, i completely uninstalled all my Steam games then reinstalled AOE2 only to have the same problem

It has been changed from 1000 to 10000 in one of the recent patches. You can find it in the Patchnotes.

doesnt look like it. dang it that screws up my play style. why couldnt they just add new cheats and leave the old ones the way they were?

i dont even know how i can play my style anymore bc 10,000 is simply too much at one time

ive played this game literally thousands of times that way. now i cant do that. my all-time favorite game, been coming back to it and playing like that for years and years

how can i contact the patch development team?

ive never written to a game company before but i figure they probably need to hear from a loyal customer who is going to permanently retire a game due to something like this. seems unnecessary and not something i would want to happen if i created a game

Maybe you should just adapt to a different playstyle that doesn't require you to use cheat codes all the time. If you need to use cheat codes against hard A.I just lower the difficulty, you never played properly anyway if using cheats.
And quitting as well as whining over this change just makes you look immature.

Try to adapt to something different, be creative, or even better, time to try some MP and kick some human ass. I don't think they will put an option to get only 1000, unless it's extremely easy to do, since they already have a lot of things to work on in the game (like bugs, forgotten empires and whatever is project Toucan) and you probably are the only person requesting this, not enough to justify it, so unless you find more people that see this as an issue, it probably won't happen.

I used to play in one specific (extremely noob) way too, a long time ago, against the AI. I decided to learn how the game actually works and how people actually play it and I found out that the game has a lot of more interesting things a to do in it, which made my "play style" sound just stupid. Give a chance to new things, mostly MP, it's worth it...

for the record ill say this once, this idea that theres only one valid way to play is just funny absurd. this isnt business management software, this is entertainment software. you pay your money and then try to find it entertaining. theres plenty of ways to win trophies and cards to display/trade if thats your thing, if not then have fun any way you like, mr customer

leandro - reasonable suggestions but ive already tried that. ive worked through several physical disabilities playing this game in every way shape and form, its an escape for me. in the end, i prefer having the total freedom to play exactly when i want and with self-created scenarios just to see if i can win a very tough situation. i need to have the smaller cheat increments bc ive done that so many times i need to fine tune the balancing to keep me right on the edge of losing

fact is, ive been a good paying customer, bought every game in the series, bought AOE2 three times now, plus all the strategy guides (when the good ones used to cost money anyway). i think its quite fair for me to point out that game style has been taken away from ppl like me by a careless change to an easy software parameter

if somehow somebody realizes how unneccessary this unintentional blunder is and wants to correct it then great. if not then to me that seems sort of tragic in a lonely nerdy gamer way

i just realized that if i added up the number of times ive played all other games, it would still be less than half the times ive played AOE2 alone

so yeah, for me this is huge

maybe this is a sign from god that its time for me to stop playing this one computer game and go find the cure for cancer. i wonder if god realizes my degree is in software engineering
