Counter to war elephants?
What counters elephants? Keep in mind they are usually backed by paladins so have to take care of that too. I must say when I play as persians even pikes I don't care and toss elephants on to, they still do a great job at it.

halbs, heavy scorps and priests are the main 3 to deal with them.

Ah priests sounds very good. I imagine it being annoying to lose paladins and elephants to them.

yes, one time, i remember making this pig pen out of walls.. sat about 30 monks in there with halbs coming at them. Its was so funny, effectly ruled persians out of the game, until he resukted to siege cannons.

Anyway trick is.. LOTS and lots of barracks and spill the halbs out as fast as oyu can.

I loved my Gothic elephant army in this one game. Think I had like 16 by the end.
8 monks > Persians.

Try to narrow them into chokepoints and barrage them with ornagers and cannons, tho not very effective, it's still better than what you can do on open field where they are very leathal

Massed B-towers with skirts around them to prevent being mowed down by these dumbos.

thats fine if you have a Bomber tower civ and have good siege such as celts, mongols and koerans ect.. Id still say mass halbs/monks but micro the halbs carfeully.

...try raid his base, he's very vunerable to loss of food, and try make massed ram attack on the castles.

yeah always go after persians farms.. love in DM michi diplo games when someone got into persians farm, they resign right after.

That is the simplest and most effective counter that almost anyone can do.

Halberdiers are definitely cost-effective against war elephants and paladins, especially late in the game when gold is restrained. I'd just spam those and let him waste all of his resources killing your dirt-cheap junk units instead of having to put so much micromanagement into monks.

Also, an elephant army will be slow and easy to out-maneuver. If you have your base walled off with fortified walls, what can they do, bleed on you? And then you could shoot at them while you send an attack on his base.
