I'd say that is impossible. MS is putting effort into upgrading the graphics and compatability, that costs money. And since everyone who owned a computer around the release of AoE2 probably also bought AoE2, MS wouldn't see a dime for this HD version.

Na, it would still sell well if CD keys were made to work from back then. I'm not sure its possible though, given how long ago it was and if they even have records of all the keys back then.

It would be nice. Like, we could submit our CD key and redeem it for a copy of AoE II HD, at least at a discount. So far they haven't announced anything like that, and it might not happen at all, but that'd be really cool.

Yeah, they haven't even announced anything yet. So it is possible.

Of course, it's still not stopping me from pre-ordering this. :D

There's no retail key redemption for this title, gosh the original pre-dates steam entirely if i'm not mistaken.

It predates Steam by about 5 years, yes.

Yeah. Age of Empires II released in 1999, Steam in 2003.
Sad to see no retail key support, but I'll happily fork over $20 for this. :D

Unfortunately, the old CD-key system just isn't as reliable as Steam would need. It's too susceptible to keygens.
