What do you do when the Gold and Stone run out?
So I've played this game off and on for a looooooong time. I never got competitive with it and never really played in multiplayer. So while playing a standard 1 player game over the years I have run into this problem and have not been certain what to do.

Once the gold and stone mines run out and there are no more that I can take over or whathaveyou, how do I continue build and sustain an army and continue to build and repair walls/castle/towers?

Relic and trade cart gold seem to come in too slow, but I guess I could always just kinda wait that out. But the stone...

To buy the stone is SO expensive by this point at the market... And by that point I typically have 10k+ in food and wood to sell, but it sells so cheap that it seems like such a waste.

Any advice for someone trying to get to that next level of skill?

"trade cart gold seem to come in too slow"
Build more trade carts. Up to 30-40. Well with stone,... you can't do much about that. Just get enough gold.

Oh wow, I never thought to build that many.. Cool. Thanks for the idea.
Some things you can do:

1. Win before gold and stone run out. This should probably be your goal anyway.
2. Switch to trash units (halbs/skirms/hussars) which do not cost gold (and use what little gold you can acquire on siege so you can still kill buildings).

A nice thing to know when selling huge amounts of resource is that if you hold shift and sell any resource at the same time it sells five times the normal amount. So instead of clicking five times to sell 500 food you click once with shift and it sells 500.

Ah thats a good tip manbeast!

yeah tradecarts and relics are all you can really count on after gold runs out, but as was pointed out before your best bet is to win long before gold goes away.

Yep, spam trade carts and trade cogs if you have allies and start beefing up your food + wood income as much as you can. Fishing ships, farms, trees (they are hopefully still abundant). Relics are usually always worth it in the long run, especially if you are playing Aztecs.
Make sure you research the tech in the market!

There are a couple things to point out here.

1. If it's a team game, trade carts are KEY. And yes, 30-40 of them is reasonable (u may want to delete some of ur miners when the mines are gone so u still have pop available for military... especially if you're going to be making more trash units).

2. If it's 1v1, the odds of the game going past the duration of the gold mines is fairly slim, assuming you're playing with any level of aggression and not just turtling until you're in imperial age with all ur techs researched.

3. If you are low on gold, I'd recommend French Charizard's solution... build halberds and elite skirmishers, using your gold to get siege weapons (probably tebuchets, as your trash units will get eaten alive under a castle while trying to guard rams).

4. In the case of point 3, where most players are spamming halberds/skirms/hussars, champions (or two-handed swordsmen) are a VERY good option. They absolutely destroy all the no-gold units, and a small group of them will go a long way in that situation. At 20 gold each, you can make 10 champions for the same gold as a treb. You end up pushing a little slower through buildings since you have fewer trebs, but they make a huge difference in open combat with trash units.

Always upgrade your trash units as much as you can if you thing it will be a long war.

Not that many things use stone unless you are planning to tower/castle spam so there is usually enough stone from mining to give you what you need. Trade carts/cogs is the obvious answer to gold.

I usually have 200 villagers, 40-50 Tcarts, then rest is military units, and I delete villagers as economy gets stronger.
You can't take a group of villagers and click delete many times, you have to click each villager individually and then click delete, it's a weird gamemechanics.

ofc you can take a group of vill and click delete. problem is, at least for me, that the game lags and takes a lot of time until the command reaches the unit. try it in single player. it works...

Eeeeh, what's the point of doinng it in singleplayer? Ofcause it works differently in singleplayer without lag.

Orion, thanks for the points, I will try to incorporate in my next game.

Extinct et al, so what do your typical vill pops look like at various stages? I think I might be going way too small and that may be why I can't hang in multiplayer...

You need to go with 26 to land a 16:30 castle age, put up 2 TC immendiately. then spam vills on wood and make farms non stop, when you have the resources put up 2 more TC then at 22 min you go gold and more farms, at 32 min you should be in enemy base and kick his ass, make more villagers, and pump out tradecarts from 3 markets non stop, you should by now have deleted old market unless it's placed perfectly at farthest point from other allies.
