Multiplayer local without buying a 2nd copy?
I've pre-purchased the game when it came out on Steam, and now I would like to play with my dad. But I've seen that there's no LAN mode, right? So my question is: There's a way to play in local without buying a 2° copy of the game? Seriously, this thing is really annoying, why should I spend another 20 bucks just to play with my dad? The old AOE didn't need to own 2 copy of the game just for do some random local match!
Thanks for the answers.

Do you use two tennis racquets to play tennis with your dad, or do you hit the ball then throw him the racquet?

Do you use two plates and silverware to eat with your dad, or do you feed each other with the same fork and knife?

Do you and your dad wear two pairs of shoes when you go outside? Or do you take turns wearing one pair, or perhaps each wear one shoe at a time?

Software is different because?

And that is why people Pirate software, you would replicate a tennis racquet as well, if you could.

*Points to the EULA*. The answer is there. Likewise it was there in the original too. At no point should you have used one copy of the game on multiple PCs playing against each other. Just because you 'can' do something doesn't mean you are permitted to.

So the short version, afraid you can't.

Borderlands 2 had local co op on consoles but not PC but you are able to run the game twice through 1 steam account on 1 pc if you know how and have a pc powerful enough and can use two screens. So it's probably possible to do two on 1 pc but I can't see why you'd want to as you'd need loads of desk space for the two keyboards and mice and you certainly couldn't connect to other people online i wouldn't think. In fact, thinking about it, it probably wouldn't work with AOE2 as bl2 is a bit different.

The whole tenis analogy is just crap. Using 1 copy to play local co-op is not stealing. Most people who play local co-op of a game with 1 copy do so because they play it with someone who clearly had no interest in buying the game or doesn't have the hardware to run it anyway so wouldn't buy it. It's just a ploy to try and get more sales out of people that shouldn't be there as you should be able to split screen borderlands 2.

That being said, AOE isn't a co-op game like borderlands is so I would say it is unfair to state you should be able to use one copy to play the game twice purely because there is no reason to. If you like the game you should buy it so you can play it without having to co-op lan.

Question:

People are making the arguement that you shouldn't be able to local lan and using the tenis anology and all that. So if I run borderlands 2 twice on my pc, does that follow the same suit? Technically I don't think it is breaking any rules. You are after all only using your pc to run your copy of borderlands.

Those of you complaining about the internet connection requirements to play games, you can thank the thieves. They have literally told game companies to make them stop stealing their products on the company’s own forums. The reason for this is that they know it would be prohibitively expensive for the companies to go after each person individually.

Society has taken a very casual stance on theft of other people stuff. You just look at the justification people throw out there. Copying software doesn’t cost the company any money, so I should be able to enjoy the fruits of all the people at that company’s labor for free. I am a super cool dude and don’t need to pay them for their work. They best be working on the next version of this game I am playing as it is not good enough for me to pay for yet.

The reason I say other people’s stuff is that they will be angry if people steal their stuff.

This all depends on perspective, and I think differently when it comes to a "multiplayer network game" that is purchased and played on a local network. Sure, we don't share our silverware or tennis rackets, but these are the wrong examples here. Some more relevant:

When you play Settlers of Catan with 3 of your buddies, you don't require everyone to bring their own copy of the game.

When you play poker, you don't require everyone to bring their own decks of cards, or a complete set of poker chips for that matter. Imagine how casinos would work if this was required!

When you play memory match with your kids, you don't' have to buy separate decks of cards with disney pictures on them, one for each of your children as well as your spouse!

I thought the original AoE came with a local network mode, and I hardly see any reason that computer pirating contributed to the removal of that feature.
